A Soft and Sweet First Birthday Card

I have worked with Cheryl for several years.  She is always so good about quietly recognizing people’s birthdays – a card here, a cookie there.  I admire that because I can’t ever seem to get it together to obey the  birthday list I created late last year.  Terrible me.  Cheryl asked me for a birthday card for a one-year old girl.  The request was “girly girly.”  Lucky for me, her request for a card coordinates with this week’s tic-tac-toe challenge from The Paper Players.  Here’s my card:

Betsy's Blossoms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP189

And here’s Nance’s Tic Tac Toe board:

If you haven’t seen a tic-tac-toe challenge before, you pick three in a row (across, down or diagonal).  I picked the top row – Birthday, Any punch of die and Ribbon or twine.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Girly Girly.  Perhaps this isn’t the most creative color combination, but I can’t but think that Pink Pirouette and Wisteria Wonder are perfect colors for a “girly-girly” project.  Don’t you agree?  I tried to add little pops of green or pale yellow to the combination, but it just didn’t work for me.  Pale pink and pale purple worked so well with the pops of white.
  • A Soft Betsy’s Blossom.  I love the large flower from Betsy’s Blossom, and I’ve used it so many bold, bright ways.  I was excited to use it as a pale accent on this card.  This sweet and gentle burst was a perfect platform for the “1”.
  • Line up the Polka Dots.  Both of the polka dot papers come from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack.  To perfectly line up the polka dots, I cropped the Pink Pirouette piece of paper (from the edge of the paper).  I glued that down to the Wisteria Wonder piece and then trimmed off the top and bottom until they were balanced how I wanted them.  That left the polka dots perfectly aligned.

Stamp sets:  Betsy’s Blossoms  Papers:  Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White, Subtles Designer Series Paper Stack (Pink Pirouette, Wisteria Wonder)  Inks:  Pink Pirouette  Accessories:  Circles Collection Framelits, Typeset Alphabet Bigz Die, Whisper White 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals
