Good Bye, My Friend

My stamp sets are my friends.  That sounds ridiculously sad, doesn’t it?  I’m not that lonely, so let me restate.  My stamp sets are my friends.  Did I just say the same thing I started with?  Yikes!  Maybe I AM that lonely.  The Retired List is always a hard time for me – while I’m saddened by the departure of some of my really good friends, I’m also excited by the promise of the friends I’m going to soon meet.  Yippee!

Today, I want to share a retrospective of some of my favorite projects that use some of the retiring items.  I don’t have anything to share about the friends I’ll soon meet, so I want to share projects that showcase the friends who will soon be leaving me.  My challenge?  I wanted to identify JUST ONE project for each retiring item.  You can click on any of the pictures below to see the related post.

Let’s get this party started:

  1. These are awesome samples. Thank you for the walk down memory lane. It will be hard to say goodbye to these old friends.

  2. What a beautiful tribute to some beautiful sets. Thanks for the memories, all of this samples are amazing.

  3. Brian, again great cards. I can see where I found and started to follow your blog. Some I have not seen and went right to my CASE file. Very nice. 🙂

  4. I never say good bye to my old friends! I keep them around just in case there is a sentiment or image I may need. Your cards are beautiful! You’ve set the bar so high.

  5. What a great collection of cards here Brian. Thanks for sharing them with us again.

It is sad to say Good-Bye to some old friends but think of the new friends we will make in a couple of months with the new Catalogue.

    Jenny

  6. Love this post, Brian. Each project is more beautiful than the next. Thanks for putting all your great work in one place.

  7. Thanks for the memories…..

  8. Great cards ! I bought Betsy because of you ! I loved what you did with that stamp ! You are a Master at coming up with original and creative uses for so many of these stamps ! So far Lovely As A Tree has escaped once again . There should be a section in the catalog called Classics that some stamp sets be listed . Thank you for this review ….. Yay You !

  9. Beverly Parkison aka Lateblooming Designs

Won’t it be fun to see what replaces what? Never did get all that I had taged but something will take its place I’m sure.

  10. This is a nice tribute. I am, however, looking forward to the new friends that are coming soon!

  11. Brian, I love the bold, graphic designs you create. I’m not a frilly card person and I’m always eager to see what you’ve come up with each day. These are all great examples. Thanks for sharing!

    • I was reading through the comments and your name jumped out at me Karen. We have the same name, first and last (my maiden name). Made me take a double take as I didn’t remember making a comment

  12. Brian, seeing your convention display board brings a special memory to mind for me. You were sharing your projects from that board when I “discovered” your blog. You’re a source of inspiration on many levels. BTW, don’t worry about your friends, I have a feeling there’s a “retirement village” in the fungeon where they’ll be very happy.

  13. Every card a winner! I too keep my retired sets and still use them. Heck, the people I make the cards for don’t know the difference. LOL However, I so look forward to having something new to work with and yes, I have had to clean out the old to make room for the new. That’s one of the reasons I’m so thrilled with the new packaging systems. Lots more stamps fit in lots less space. Yeah!

  14. Thanks for sharing your favorites! I feel the same about my friends leaving but an so very excited about new ones! I will really, really, really miss the in-color ruffle ribbon. I adore them! I hope something as lovely will replace it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  15. I will miss your friends! Beautiful work!

  16. I can’t believe En Francais is retiring! I’m lucky, though. I’m in charge of the card ministry at my church, so I really don’t have to say goodby to any old friends! 🙂 I’ve seen lots of cards you’ve done with Besty’s Blossoms, but the reason I bought the stamp set was because of this one: https://stampwithbrian.com/2012/08/22/betsys-blossoms-a-masculine-card/ LOVE LOVE LOVE that masculine card!!!

    • Hi Rebecca, So sorry if this is rude, can I ask you how you came to be in charge of the card ministry? I’d love to start one but don’t belong to a church, any suggestions?

    • Hi Rebecca! Ditto. Can you let me know more about your card ministry at church. God has put this on my heart for some time and I don’t know how to go about this. You can e-mail me if you don’t mind: [email protected]. Brian, would you pass this along to Rebecca for me in case she doesn’t see my comment? Thank you 🙂

  17. Nice! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember most of these beauties but there are I few I don’t remember seeing before. And yes, there are a few that I have scrap lifted from you. Thanks for the awesome inspiration!

  18. P.S. How do you do it? I’ve never gotten rid of a single stamp, not ever…I just couldn’t.

  19. What can I say that hasn’t been said before Brian? Love Love Love your cards! Beautiful tribute to the retiring ~

  20. Brian,
I have to say that I absolutely positively have to look at your blog daily. You have clean and colorful designs and I love everyone of them. Your style is so totally out of my comfort zone that I have to try them just to see what happens. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent.

  21. I’m with you, I hate seeing SU retire sets and products. All their stuff is wonderful. But then when I see tht new catty I forget about the retired goodies.

  22. Beautiful collection of cards! I’m surprised some of them are retiring. Several are my favs!

  23. Great cards and great memories! I’m sorry to see “Gently Falling” retire. It’s a popular one up here in Maine.
