When I sat down last Sunday to make this week’s FabFriday Design Team card, I had no idea that my project would be chock-full of soon-to-be retired Stampin’ Up! treasures. With a simple color challenge, I unknowingly created a graveyard of products that I will miss so much. Here’s my card:
And here’s the FabFriday banner for this week’s color inspiration:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- What’s Retiring? I hear you asking, “Brian, which of these amazingly assembled items is retiring? Your talent is endless, and your handsome face is a classic beauty.” Those are your words, not mine. Here’s a list of all the items I used that are either gone or will soon be gone: Summer Starfruit cardstock, Birday Basics Designer Series Paper, Fancy Flower punch, Little Leaves Sizzlits, Neutrals Core’dinations Cardstock. It’s sad to see these go – I have grown to appreciate Summer Starfruit and have grown to love the Core’dinations papers.
- Where’s the Ink? I certainly didn’t get “inky fingers” with this card. There’s not a stitch of ink on it – except for the handwritten note that goes inside. It wasn’t planned that way, but that’s what happened. The heat embossed button from Notable Notions is surrounded by gorgeous texture (the ombre pattern in the DSP, the roughness of the Core’dinations, the wispiness of the leaves) that make you almost forget that there’s no ink in sight.
- White or Vanilla? I made two buttons with the Early Espresso powder – one on Very Vanilla to pair with the Very Vanilla Birthday Basics paper, and one on Whisper White to pair with the sanded Core’dinations paper. Back and forth and back and forth. Which should I use? I decided that the Whisper White piece popped a bit better and bridged the two panels together best.
Stamp Sets: Notable Notions Papers: Early Espresso, Crisp Cantaloupe, Summer Startfruit, Neutrals Core’dinations Cardstock (Smoky Slate), Whisper White, Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper Accessories: Fancy Flower punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, 1-1/4″ Circle punch, Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Little Leaves Sizzlits, Neutrals Candy Dots (Early Espresso and Smoky Slate), Stampin’ Dimensionals
