Yippee! Away We Go!

Before I share today’s post, and I want to thank Ann Schach for selecting my Clean and Simple Washi Tape card (last week’s Paper Players card) as “A Cut Above.”  I play along with the challenges for inspiration and fun, but it’s always nice to be recognized.  🙂  Thanks, Ann!  If you wanna’ check out that card, click here.

This is a busy, busy week.  I’m packing to leave on Sunday for the Caribbean.  Woo hoo!  In the 2012-2013 stamping year, I earned Stampin’ Up!’s Grand Vacation aboard the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas.  Woo hoo!  I’m working hard to make sure I have blog posts ready for you each day of my vacation.  During that week, Mom and her friend will be staying at my house – someone has to keep the light on in the Fungeon while I’m gone, right?

I’ve been itching to make a “bon voyage” card, and this week’s sketch from The Paper Players is the perfect foundation for my design.  Here’s my project:

Around the World, Yippe-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King,PP193 And here’s Anne Marie Hile’s sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Yipee!  I was ready to assemble my card – the paper was cut and layered, the central image was stamped and ready to go, the candy dots were on stand-by for a last-step add-in.  I was in good shape!  Once last check of the sketch, and … ARGH!  The sketch calls for the sentiment in the bottom, right corner, and I the sentiment is included in my focal point.  What to do?!?  I scanned my entire stamp collection between 7 and 29 times before finding the perfect sentiment that would correspond with the sentiment I already had in place.  I inked up half of my Yippee-Skippee stamp and stamped it down.  Perfect!
  • Stamp it Real Good.  It’s not nice to brag, but sometimes it’s necessary.  Today, it’s necessary.  You know how the foam pad ink pads get really juicy every once in a while?  My red pad was giving me juicy attitude, so I blotted it a bit with a paper towel.  I may have achieved the most perfectly stamped image of my stamping career.  That’s all.  It’s not my skill, and it’s not my talent – I just stamped it real good.Around the World, Yippe-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King,PP193Around the World, Yippe-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King,PP193Around the World, Yippe-Skippee, Stampin' Up!, Brian King,PP193
  • Stacking Starbursts.  This starburst shape has been sitting in our Annual Catalog since June of 2013 – it’s not from the Starburst Sayings set.  As such, the edges don’t exactly coordinate with the Starburst Framelit Dies.  That doesn’t mean I can’t create the illusion that they exactly coordinate, right?  I punched the stamped image with the 1-1/4″ Circle punch and mounted it on a 1-3/8″ Circle punch of Pool Party.  I THEN mounted that on a Real Red Starburst.  Voila!  Who would know that the starbursts don’t match?  Only you because you read this entire paragraph – I’m so proud of you.

  15. Love this card Brian – thanks for the inspiration! I have always wanted to do a Bon Voyage card and these words don’t seem to be available from Stampin Up (I did a card class for some stranded cruise passengers, who were delayed for several weeks for technical reasons!!! – and they all wanted to do a card with the words ‘Bon Voyage’). Could you have a quiet word with someone on your cruise please!? Enjoy the cruise – I am very jealous!
