Congratulations to Vicki and Ted

When I was just starting my amateur show-and-tell blog a couple of years ago, I never dreamed I would reach people in other parts of this world.  Vicki and Lorraine, two delightfully fun ladies from England, showed up early on and frequently commented on my posts.  How exciting and inspiring for me that someone “across the pond” was listening to me go on-and-on about stamping!

While I still hear from Vicki and Lorraine every once in a while, their comments have declined over time.  Why?  Perhaps it’s because Vicki has been so busy getting ready for today.  You see, today Vicki is marrying her boyfriend of more than TWENTY years.  How wonderful is that?!  Vicki’s Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, Jo Blackman, contacted me to let me know the date of Vicki’s nuptials, and I wanted to surprise Vicki and Ted today with today’s project, which is en route to the couple now:

Everything Eleanor, Label Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, wedding card Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Cropping.  Do you see how perfectly this circle sits inside the designs on this Designer Series Paper pattern?  The circle, cropped with Circles Collection Framelits, touches each pattern in just about the same place.  I pondered how to cut the DSP so that the circle would be perfectly balanced inside the pattern.  That’s when it hit me – the Squares Collection Framelits would be perfect.  Sure, I could trim away at the edges, but I would never be able to balance it exactly the way I wanted it.  The square framelit was a perfect solution.Everything Eleanor, Label Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, wedding cardEverything Eleanor, Label Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, wedding card
  • Color scheme.  This card started out as a “black and white” theme.  I was dead-set about adding no color here because I wanted a classy-classy card.  Once I saw the pattern in Eastern Elegance DSP and how it complements the emblem from Everything Eleanor, I knew I’d have to incorporate Smoky Slate, too.  That was A-OK by me, though, because Smoky Slate looks so silver-y, so it’s a win-win for a classy project.
  • Stacking the sentiment.  I don’t use the Label Love images as much as I would like because I like to have a little border around my images.  When I heat embossed the image on black paper, though, a black border was automatically created.  Yippee!  Then, I needed to find something to stack this beautiful sentiment on.  When I realized the Artisan Punch layered perfectly over the center of the emblem from Everything Eleanor, I was done.  I knew that would be my centerpiece.  Yippee, Eleanor!  You always help me out of a tough spot.

What an elegant, classy card, Brian. Another winner! I love the raised middle level (it looks raised in the pic). That Eastern Elegance DSP sure is nice, too bad it’s being retired in a few weeks.
And congratulations to the bride and groom!!!

  2. Congratulations to the Happy Couple! I recognize Vickie, she’s typically the earliest one here posting. A lovely card with a matching envelope one they’re sure to keep “forever”

Brian, thank you for letting us know about this wonderful event on Vicki’s life. Even if we don’t know her personally, it feels like it because of your blog. Your card is stunning, elegant, amazing!!! It will be a fabulous surprise for the happy couple when they return home.

  10. Beautiful card Brian! And congratulations to the newlyweds!!

  11. Gorgeous card, Brian. I noticed it seems you have been making a lot of square cards. Don’t they all require more postage? I love that you post at least one card every day on your blog. I like the clean and simple look, and your cards really inspire me. I have your site bookmarked first on my list, and can’t wait to see your beautiful designs every day. I also enjoy the tips you provide with every design, and your sense of humor is a real hoot! Thanks, keep up the great work.

    • Thank you, Carole! You are so kind. Square cards do cost more – unless they fit in a rectangular envelope. 🙂 Since this was a special occasion, and since I was shipping this overseas, I decided to put the card and the envelope inside a padded envelope. It only cost a little bit more, but I know (or hope) it will get there in good shape.

  12. Congratulations Vicki and Ted! Hope your day is perfect and I wish you a lifetime of happiness. What a great post Brian. Your card for them is gorgeous!

  13. Congratulations Vicki and Ted ! What a beautiful card ,Brian ! And thank you Eleanor ….I don`t know what we would do without you and Betsy and her Blossoms !

  18. Congratulations and Best Wishes to Vicki and Ted. How exciting to “take the plunge” after a twenty year courtship! Beautiful card Brian…so thoughtful of you. : )

  19. So very elegant!

  20. Label Love is one of my very favorite stamp sets, and embossing on the black is SO classy-classy!!! I really need to emboss more often. Not sure why I don’t, but it may have something to do with getting the powder back into the container? How do you do that, Brain? I’ve seen you embossing quite a bit …

    • Celia, I keep all my embossing powders in Gladware containers that are perfect for carrying a sandwich in your lunch bag. I dump the whole container in and then scoop onto the paper. Shake it off in the container and close the lid tight. No mess for me. 🙂

  21. Gongratulations to Vickie & Ted! I know they will be thrilled to receive such an amazing card.

    To the happy couple!

  22. Brian I cannot thank you enough this is just gorgeous I know Vicki is gonna love it, you have captured her personality just brilliantly. I am not sure she has actually seen it yet but I know she won’t miss your post, even on her wedding day. She is now officially a married lady and no doubt slurping on a wee beverage or two as we speak. Congratulations Vicki and Ted xxx

  23. A big huge Congratulations to Vicki and Ted. I think that after 20 years they know they are pretty compatible! LOL Good for them and I wish them an amazing honeymoon!

Absolutely one of the classiest cards I have ever seen Brian. Every little detail perfectly executed. Just a reminder of why you are The King!

  24. Beautiful card (as always)! I can see this being placed in a frame and kept in a prominent place in their home for all to see. Congratulations Vicki & Ted!

  25. What a lovely card, Brian. It’s so ‘Vicki’ and I know Ted will love it too! I also know that Vicki will be so chuffed to receive your card and completely blown away at being featured on your blog!!! Your kind thoughts (and deeds) will just be the icing on the cake for her! What a lovely man you are Brian (even if you do have a go at Vicki and I for not commenting so much lately…!)

    • Oh, Lorraine! Thank you! Two observations from me: (1) I didn’t mean it as a dig to you and Vicki that y’all haven’t commented as frequently. Our love affair is just as strong, right? (2) I am laughing because “chuffed” is the word Jo used in her email to me to describe how Vicki will feel when she receives the card. I was a bit worried because “chuffed” doesn’t sound like a good thing to me. Now I know better. 🙂

      • How lovely to have such a sweet relationship from across the pond. Your card is beautiful and I know it will be the icing on the cake (Wedding Cake) for the couple. You are always so sweet to your fans. I wake each morning to read your blog and to see what magical card you have made. Your amazing. I love you.

  34. Oh my god. I’m sitting on the dockside waiting to board the ferry and Jo texted me to say I ought to have a look at your blog today!… Chuffed is an understatement (must be a very British word eh?!) I cannot wait to receive that card when I get home – thank you so much!!! It is very me as Lorraine said 🙂
Ps Did she mention she’s currently on hol in Oz?? Hi pal!
And Jo – you really are something else bless you. I think she’s been almost as excited as me! She turned last Saturdays monthly craft club into a craft hen do! Totally amazing.
