I do love a good challenge. This week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge required a lot of purposeful plans and smart strategies. Baked Brown Sugar, Pacific Point and So Saffron – definitely a combination I would have never derived on my own. I did it, though, and here’s my card:
And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s PPA Challenge:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- Working with the Colors. I like these colors in any paired combination, but the three together were really hard for me to imagine. I decided I would create a card that’s mostly Baked Brown Sugar and So Saffron with a touch of Pacific Point. I started by cutting into a striped bag from the Celebration Basic Kit and built on that, alternating on between Whisper White, Baked Brown Sugar and So Saffron until the pop of blue in the center.
- Gettin’ Snippy. The pop of blue in the center of this card is brought to you today by my incredible snipping abilities. 🙂 I embossed the image from Starburst Sayings on Baked Brown Sugar and again on Pacific Point. I snipped the letters out of the Pacific Point starburst and glued them the Baked Brown Sugar one. Good news – No need to snip out the middle of the “A” and the middle of the “P”s as they will have the same white center as their new home.

- Stacking the Shapes. The HAPPY letters are mounted on a Baked Brown Sugar starburst – we’ve covered that. Behind the starburst is a So Saffron circle from the Circles Collection Framelits and then a piece of Whisper White that’s cropped with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. I needed to “ground” the sentiment, so I added two of the large tags from Chalk Talk Framelits in Baked Brown Sugar (the bread-tie ends are centered beneath the layers of other times. Those are layered on top of a framed Celebration Basics Kit bag and then a So Saffron card base.
Stamp Sets: Starburst Sayings Papers: So Saffron, Baked Brown Sugar, Pacific Point, Whisper White Accessories: Starburst Framelits, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Circles Collection Framelits, Deco Labels Collection Framelits, Chalk Talk Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Good color combo and I would not have come up with it . I like Pacific Point a lot and So Saffron is a good soft creamy yellow so throw in something with Baked and Sugar in there ….it can`t be too bad ! Great card to keep a couple on hand . You did well !
The colors for this PPA challenge are three great colors in my opinion.
I love them individually and you’ve used them so well together, Brian, with just enough
Pacific Point to really give the card a POP! You are a snipping wizard!
Hmmm … this color combo would look nice on pillows 😉
Nice on pillows? I know where you’re going with this, Suzie… 🙂
Incredible snipping abilities indeed! I really like everything about this card.
Oh yes, I didn’t receive your post in my email today. Wondering if anyone else had this problem. Thought I’d mention it.
I was up this morning and noticed my blog was “offline” for about 4 minutes right before 5:00 this morning (when the post was to go-live). I’m hoping an email will go out today at some point.
Yes, I was concerned when your email wasn’t there this AM, too!
This card is absolutely fantastic, Brian!!! It’s the first card I’ve seen that makes me want to buy the set of stamps and framelits, Starburst. Seriously! I passed on it, and now I want it!!!
You did do it, Brian, and very well I might add! Love the white embossing and those diagonals. Great combo of elements on a great card!
Love your take on the card – always, clean and crisp!!! That “HAPPY” just makes me happy!!!!
