My 2014-2015 Annual Catalog order arrived last week, so I’ve had the joy of playing with some of my new things. Today’s card (for Rita’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches) features a new stamp set, Oh My Goodies. The set entered my order as a last-minute replacement for another set – last on my list and the first set in my order to be mounted and inked up. I couldn’t be happier. Here’s my card:
And here’s Rita’s sketch that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Keep it Simple. When I first set out to make this card, my “snippy” mind went straight to how many pieces of this sentiment could be snipped out in different colors and mounted together to make one beautiful sentiment. After I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy, though, I knew I needed to keep this clean and simple. Sure, many layers could still be clean – but they certainly wouldn’t be simple. I’m happy with my restraint here – the image is bold and graphic, not distracted by multiple colors.
- Tying back the Ribbon. I used a small piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine to secure the base of the 3/8″ Chevron Ribbon. Rather than tie the twine with the “tails” on the front of the ribbon, I tied them to face the back. I then tacked them down with a little piece of washi tape before securing the panel to the face of the card.
- Adding a Slit for the Ribbon. I used the ribbon slit framelit from Chalk Talk Framelits to create the opening for the ribbon. The small framelit leaves a big indention on the front of the cardstock – so I turned over the cardstock and just cropped it from the other side. While the back of the cardstock has an indention, the front is crisp and clean. Didn’t really matter in the end, though, because my handy opening was covered my a layer of the sentiment. 🙂

love the strong colours of the card – and what a neat trick with the washi tape and tail ends behind
We’ll you did it again. A clean and simple card. I love the colors and design and stamp. Again Brian, great job!
like the crispness of the colors . Thanks for giving me the heads up on these two for a birthday card coming up soon. Although the blue looks more like Pacific Point (one of my faves) on my screen . Love the white candy dots and your hints on using Washi and the flip over of the tag . Great card !
Love this card, you never cease to impress! Will be ordering this stamp set as soon as possible!
Oooo, pretty Brian , I like vary well , I have this one on my list too !!!
Tfs friend ,
Hugs to you ,and have a wonderful day !
Frenchie ,
I really like your take on this sketch and the color combo you chose! Very inspiring for a stamping morning !
The patterned paper accents the background of the greeting stamp so nicely. Your restraint paid off. I do think it could have been too much with more layers on the greeting. Great tips on the ribbon. TFS.
Love how you corraled the Baker’s twine with Washi tape. What a clever guy you are!
The Night of Navy and Pear Pizzazz are so rich and elegant together. I think tying the ribbon with the Baker’s twine was the “piece de resistance” for this card. Also, you crack me up………….I count six layers on this card which you call simple. I call that a lot of layers. You have a knack Brian for making cards with a lot of elements that, when finished, look so clean and simple. That takes a very special talent. It’s like watching an Olympic ice skater go through a routine that you absolutely know is super complicated and yet, with their elegance, they make it look easy. You are one very impressive stamper for sure and we so appreciate all your talents.
I LOVE the colors … and your ribbon attaching idea is great. Great card as usual! Do I need to revisit the chalk talk framelits? 😉
Beautiful card Brian. The Night of Navy and Pear Pizzazz work together so well. Great job
Gotta say, “Wow!” This is my favorite of all the cards you have done in a long time. (and I like a LOT of them!) I love the colors and…everything!
That ribbon treatment is absolutely brilliant!!! Super card.
Brian, I love your ribbon idea for a masculine card. I do not like traditional bows for my guy cards but this treatment is perfect. The ribbon is not exclusively feminine as satin would be “bow-tail” is ideal. Your “fungeon” really inspires you! However, in your videos, it looks so uncluttered and organized, and after that Stamping Studio video, I am suspicious that this is actually a Mary Fish “fungeon”! Thank you for a great idea.
Beautiful color combo and a beautiful crisp, clean card. Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
LOVE the color combination!
Love how sharp and crisp this is!
Awesome clean card, Brian. I love the colors and layers. Thanks for playing along with my sketch this week. 🙂
