Something Worth Celebrating for MOJO353

I have a lot on my plate this week, but I couldn’t stay away from this week’s Mojo Monday sketch.  With all of it’s pieces, I challenged myself to find a clean card.  The end result has lots of layers (not as “clean” as I wanted), but I think the layers all work well together to make a beautiful, celebratory card:

Remembering Your Birthday, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO353

And here’s Julee Tilman’s MOJO sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Striped Scallop Thinlit.  Is possible that you missed this amazing Thinlit in the Annual Catalog?  The Striped Scallop Thinlit, found on page 228 of the catalog, generates rows of thin scallops that can fill an entire card front.  I chose to use a thin strip of them as an accent here.  As with all thinlits, I placed a piece of wax paper between the cardstock and the thinlit die.  I also placed an additional piece of cardstock on top of the thinlit to make sure it cut all the way through (you’ll have to play around with your Big Shot to find the right pressure point.  Oh! and the thinlit comes with little holes that can be used to pop out the cropped paper using a scoring tool.
  • Double Stack, Please.  I really wanted this scalloped sentiment to pop up over the layers of the square layer.  Since the square layers were already so high, I double-stacked the dimensionals on the bottom of the scallop.  One single dimensional was used to attach the top to the bottom of the square sentiment.  Easy fix.
  • Bring Home the Gold.  I tend to forget about the Gold Foil Specialty Paper.  What a lovely accent this paper makes to all the elements of this card.  As you can see, the Gold Foil stands out better against dark colors than against the patterned paper or light-colored cardstock.  Gold Soiree, this Specialty Designer Series Paper, has shiny gold in the papers (although this picture doesn’t show the gold specs as well).  Definitely worth an add to your craft space.
