Let’s Celebrate with The Card Concept

Woo hoo!  Today is the day that I pack my clothes and get ready to head to Salt Lake City for Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Convention.  Tomorrow morning, I will wake up, shower and head to the airport.  WAIT!  NO!  I will wake up, shower, get dressed and head to the airport.  As with card making, there’s a very important sequence to the events of our lives.

To celebrate my excitement over Convention and to play along with The Card Concept’s latest color challenge, I created this fun 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ card:

Sumthin' Sumpthin', Bits & Pieces, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC14 And here’s the challenge banner from The Card Concept that inspired by card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Style Definition.  As part of the challenge at the Card Concept, we are asked to define the style of the card we are submitting.  Is it Clean & Simple?  Clean & Graphic? Clean & Layered?  Shabby Chic?  Classy & Elegant?  Freestyle Collage?  This card definitely falls between Clean & Layered and Clean & Graphic.  There’s not a whole lot going on, but I think the bold colors and graphic shapes create a wonderful energy that supports the fun sentiment.
  • Background Paper. If you are wondering where I got this fun background paper, look no further.  I’m going to tell you.  I stamped these Coastal Cabana stripes with Bits & Pieces, a (possibly) looked over stamp set from the new catalog.  Using my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line everything up perfectly, I created a square with these patterns (leaving a small, empty square in the center.  The “seams” of the pieces don’t exactly line-up (easy to see in the picture below), but when the circles are centered on the design (see above), the misalignment becomes a less apparent, but intriguing, element of the card. Sumthin' Sumpthin', Bits & Pieces, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC14
  • Border Callbacks.  As with the card I shared yesterday, I added balance to this card by repeating the depth of the borders.  On this card, a thick border of Coastal Cabana is topped with a thin border of Basic Black (around both the square border of the card and around the circle sentiment in the center).  In addition, the Basic Black layers are both popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals against the Coastal Cabana layer.  Callbacks are fun!

Stamp Sets:  Sumthin’ Sumthin’, Bits & Pieces  Papers:  Real Red, Basic Black, Coastal Cabana, Whisper White  Inks:  Coastal Cabana, Real Red  Accessories:  1-3/4″ Circle punch, 2″ Circle punch, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensional

Thanks for stopping by today!

  11. Oh my gosh, what a fun card design! Love the stamped design you created! The seams are very difficult to detect until one sees the design without the center focal image. I might need to ” borrow” this idea sometime! LOL! Thank you so much for sharing, Brian. Have a great trip!

  14. It is so funny….I was perusing the catalog getting ready to place my order…and came across the stickers in the back. It then prompted me to check out the stamp set said to go with stickers. Voila! Bits and Pieces just moved on my list. Great idea using it as background 🙂

  15. Okay…no doubt about it….you rock! Seriously….you stamped the background paper? Would have thought you were ‘messin’ with our heads…until I read your post! This card is AWESOME….but all your cards are! I’m thrilled that you shared this great creation with us at CCC.

IMO, it sits on the fence between Clean & Graphic and Clean & Simple (I’d vote for CAG)!
