Give Thanks with a Sneak Peek for FabFriday

There are so many things to love today.  For starters, it’s Friday.  I’m also sharing my card for this week’s Fab Friday Design Team.  My project is includes a sneak peek at a new photopolymer stamp set and Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper – new products from the upcoming Holiday Catalog.  While Fall isn’t exactly in the air yet, I’m already dreaming of the delightful colors and temperatures of Autumn.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Adding Texture.  Once I decided to use three leaves for my project, I knew I couldn’t just crop three leaves and stick them on.  Before passing the cardstock through the Big Shot, I ran the coordinating stamp pads over each color of paper.  With the direct-to-paper method, I simply swiped the ink pads over the cardstock (I swiped in a couple of directions to create texture) and then ran the paper through the Big Shot with the inked side of the card stock facing the die.Holiday Invitation, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri47
  • First Version.  When I was finished with my card, it didn’t include a band of Linen Thread.  Before photographing my project, I used my patented squint method (and then gave myself a nickel) to see if it needed anything else.  It was out of balance and needed something over the leaves.  I threaded a double strand the Linen Thread through the top panel (it was lifted up with Stampin’ Dimensionals) and tied a bow.  Here’s what it looked like without the bow (careful not to squint at it, though – or you’ll be legally required to send me a nickel):Holiday Invitation, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri47
  • Color Combinations.  I love the colors of Fall.  The featured colors in my leaves were easy to select since Stampin’ Up! already picked the colors for me in this beautiful piece of Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper (available in the Holiday Catalog).  Soft Suede, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry on a Very Vanilla base.  Perfection!

  1. I too love the colors of fall, and your card is feeding my longing for autumn. Thanks for a little “taste” of the new upcoming catalog. Can’t wait!

  2. The touch of twine is perfect! Actually looks like the leaves are balanced and could “fall” off. 🙂

  3. …I owe you a nickel. Sorry!…
I love the added bit of twine – thanks for showing the before & after.
I agree with Sheryl it looks like the leaves could fall off and are just tucked behind the string! Definitely gives more effect. Vx

  4. What a beautiful card, great interpretation of the sketch. I love the DSP.

  5. Great, easy card. I do send out quite a few Thanksgiving cards, so this is a great start for my collection. Thanks a bunch. 🙂

  6. Oops! I have to send you a nickel! lol Beautiful card Brian! Another thing to add to my growing list of awesome Holiday Catalog products!

  7. Very nice!

  8. Well, Fall is just maybe a short month away and I can’t wait, it’s my absolute favorite season of the year. Your card really is beautiful, the sentiment’s font is really so elegant, I might have to break my piggy bank and splurge on this set, I can’t wait till the Holiday catty gets here to see what other sentiments come in it.
Thank you for a little taste of Autumn on a hot August day.

  9. Brian, I feel like I should put on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt this morning after looking at your FABFRIDAY card! The texturing of the leaves was a great idea. They almost look like suede on my computer screen. And the twine was the best idea! It looks like the leaves would “fall” if you hadn’t tied the linen thread around them. Very good!

  10. I love love love this! The texture on the leaves is awesome! This card leaves me longing for fall!

  11. Glad you added the linen thread. It’s the perfect touch.

  12. Brian, you have totally taught me to make cards. I don’t glue anything down now until I have all the layers just right (or as nearly right as I can get!), and I squint at it to see what else it needs!!! The addition of thread is perfect.

  13. I love Fall/Autumn ! These leaves are pretty and just like Suzie said …they look like they are suede because of the texture added . I like the twine addition also because it is “Fallish ” looking ! I like your card and stick with the “squint” because it is working for you !!

  14. If we approximate total squinatage for a year, would you prefer a check?

  15. If I could make it happen, there would be two seasons of the year – spring and fall. Your card today is just perfect! Of all the blogs I follow yours has been cased more times than any other. Thanks for all the great ideas and tips and sharing them with all of us.

  17. A very nice card! I agree, it looks better with the twine bow. Thanks for sharing!

  18. I love fall and all of the beautiful colors, and I LOVE this card! Great job, as always.

  19. Well well Mr. Brian – You’ve done it again. Even before I get the catty I’ve got a list of “got to haves” just from looking at your website. The amazing look of suede on these cards has convinced me that I need to get some Soft Suede and Cajun Craze ink and paper. Not sure where I’ll fit it in here but it’s an “I’ve got to”! Love this card, love the colors, the placement and, like everyone else, I think the placement of the twine really does pull it all together. Fab card from a fab designer for sure.

  20. It’s a beauty! I agree, the thread is the finishing touch.

  21. Great Fall Card! I can’t wait to get that new autumn paper – it’s so pretty!! TFS!

  22. Gorgeous! Love how you added texture to the leaves.

  23. Great job with the texture…sometimes I forget that you can just use the ink pads like that!! Thanks for the reminder! TFS!

  24. Very cool card!! Love the leaves and the twine is perfect!!
