Stars, Stars, Stars for The Paper Players

You’ve already heard me say this (or maybe you read the words I’ve written) – the Holiday Catalog is AMAZING!  If you haven’t yet seen it, then you are in for a treat!  While there are so certainly many products that are perfect for all of the Fall Holidays, there are also others that work well at all times of the year.  Here’s a card I made with the Confetti Stars Punch:

Pictogram Punches, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP208And here’s the banner from Nance Leedy’s four-color challenge at The Paper Players:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • FOUR!  Nance wasn’t messing around when she threw down the gauntlet on this color challenge – four colors.  Four.  On top of that, two pinks, a yellow and a gray.  Nice job, Nance!  While I was initially overwhelmed by the challenge, I quickly reminded myself that they don’t call it a challenge for nothing, right?  I knew that if I used all four, they couldn’t be used equally, so I minimized the use of Blushing Bride.
  • A Spattering of White.  When all the panels were cut and punched, I needed “something” to add interest to the card.  Even with a mess-ton (that’s Southern for “a lot”) of stars, there’s still something missing – isn’t the crazy?  I decided to run a piece of Whisper White card stock through the punch and then picked a couple of the punched-out stars to fill-in random stars.  I think the white stars add a visual appeal here, almost like the stars are twinkling.
  • Dimensions.  These three panels add a solid background to this card.  You like when I give you dimensions, so I’m happy to share today.  Each of these three panels measures 5″ long and 1-1/4″ tall.  Underneath each, is a 5″ strip of Blushing Bride or Calypso Coral card stock, trimmed just shy of 1-1/4″.

Stamp Sets:  Pictogram Punches  Papers:  Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, Hello Honey, Basic Gray, Whisper White  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Confetti Stars Punch, Ovals Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. First thing I’ve seen with Confetti Stars Punch. Very cool. Good use of the gray, could be a card for anyone!

  2. Have to say, first look and ugh! But the more I looked, the more it grew on me. You did a great job pulling all those colors together and how clever since it is a simple layout.
Thanks for sharing and showing how easy to add interest and character with a little touch of white. Have a joy filled week.

  3. Love this card. Does the punched out confetti stars drive you crazy . . . like glitter? Did I see someone put them in a shaker card. Love the layout you used. Some “star” will be very happy to get this card. Always nice to cheer someone up.
    🙂

  4. Genius! Great use of the colors. Love the white stars.

  5. These colors look VERY challenging to me! You’ve done a good job with it … love the Confetti Stars Punch! And the white stars were a very good idea with the color palette.
I have never heard the Southern term “mess-ton” … maybe you can use it in one of your future videos! Thanks, Brian!

  6. Well, this punch really would produce a good amount of little stars but I agree with Nancy, this will make great fillers for shaker cards.
I really liked how you use this very hard combination of colors, specially the Smoky Slate and the Blushing Bride, the soft pink color is a great background for the darker gray.
You did fabulously with this challenge, thank you for sharing.

  7. The mad creative genius rides again. Your card is simply stunning. Awesome job Brian.

  8. Brian:
Your card is “stellar”! LOL Sometimes I crack myself up! I don’t know how anyone could come up with a terrific card with this color combo but I should have known you would. I’m getting really itchy waiting for the new catalog! I like the sneak peaks but sometimes it’s just such a tease! Absolutely fabulous job and adding the white brings it to an odd number of colors which is what I have been told you should always have except when doing a monochromatic card. Again, the King sits in his throne!

  9. You really have an eye for color challenges; this is super! Sigh, another punch to tempt me. 😉

  10. You’re such a shining star – thanks so much for sharing your talent.

  11. Wow Brian, you sure made a hard challenge look easy! 🙂

  12. Brian, I am glad you were able to “rise” to the occasion and use all four colors for our PP challenge! I agree with you, this holiday catalog is amazing and I can’t wait to get that confetti stars punch. I adore how you used it! So inspiring!
