A Fab Friday Surprise for Mindy, Jon and Ian

Welcome to this week’s Fab Friday challenge.  Although Mindy Backes had a wonderful color challenge in mind for us today, the Design Team has overthrown her plans.  🙂  After Mindy and her husband welcomed Baby Ian, Mindy decided to take a little time off to be with her new son.  While the cat’s away…we’re hosting a “For Baby” theme at FabFriday.  Woo hoo!  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s challenge:

baby bannerTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • White Space.  If you are going for a clean look, you have to honor the white space.  Let it do its job, and you’ll have a tailored, clean project.  I love to let my cards “breathe” but was still uncomfortable with this much white space – until I was completely done.  There’s still a lot going on  – without feeling like there’s a lot going on.
  • Added Texture.  When the banner and onesie were glued down, I was left wanting more.  The card had no real texture.  I [figuratively] closed my eyes and jumped by adding Daffodil Delight Candy Dots to the curved banner.  It worked just like I wanted, giving me a little texture and a third dollop (that’s Southern) of yellow.
  • Color Inspiration.  I opted to use a color palette that’s typical for a baby card:  blue, green and yellow.  To add “a little edge” to it, I chose shades a bit deeper the the typical soft colors.  Marina Mist, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight worked perfectly to create a beautiful combination of shapes and words.  Feel free to save this off if it inspires you:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  7. Brian, first of all, I love that you are adding the color palette “badges” — I started a new Pinterest board just for Stamping Tips and am adding them to that board . As for today’s card, the color palette is great. And the use of the triple Bitty Banners under the sentiment circles is “genius” 😉 Thanks, B!

  11. Good Morning Your Highness:

I usually find baby cards to be oh so boring. Congrats on the boy – blue, congrats on the girl – pink. Ho Hum. Well Sir Sweetness, you kicked the heck out of that one with this card. It sure as heck isn’t boring and it sure as heck is pretty dang cute. Love it, great job!
