Celebrating Your Wedding with TCC and FMS

Today’s card was designed for The Card Concept’s theme challenge and for Freshly Made Sketches’ sketch challenge.  Before I share the project, though, I want to thank Ardyth Percy-Robb who selected my last TCC card as a winner.  I also want to thank Kim Singdahlsen who selected my last FMS card as a winner.  Woo hoo!  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…I join the challenges for the inspiration and (go figure!) for the challenge.  In the end, though, it’s always nice to be recognized.  If you’d like to see the cards they selected, click here and click here.  Thanks, Ardyth and Kim!

Without any further ado, here my Simple Saturday card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Style.  The Card Concept team asks us to define the style of the card we make.  While there’s not a lot of white space on this card, there’s certainly a lot of unused space.  This piece of Designer Series Paper is one of my favorites in the catalog – I’ve been contemplating my strategy for using it for quite some time.  The bold graphic of the paper, paired with the simple shapes on the card front lend to a Clean & Graphic card.
  • Masculine-Feminine.  It seems to me that most wedding cards are soft and beautiful – pink flowers, frilly script, soft ribbons.  The man is often times left out of the design all-in-all.  As such, I created a card that has both masculine and feminine appeal – it’s certainly a modern card for a no-frills couple.  I wanted to honor both.
  • Framelits.  I used two Framelits to make this super-simple card.  Can you spot them?  I’m not even going to make you wait – instead I’m going to just tell you.  I don’t like when people make me guess, so I have to assume you don’t like it, either.  What?  Some people like to play games?  OK.  Guess.  If you don’t want to, here’s the answer:  I used Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits and Apothecary Accents Framelits.  After I stamped the sentiment (which, by the way, is a hybrid of two stamp sets), I cropped it with the below Framelit – not happy with how large it was, I snipped off the half-circles:Fabulous Four, Big News, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, TCC16, FMS146

I hope you’ll head over to The Card Concept  and Freshly Made Sketches to check out the other projects – and maybe to participate in the challenge.

Has Your Demonstrator Disappeared?  I’ve received several messages over the past couple of weeks from avid stampers who’ve lost their demonstrator.  If your Stampin’ Up! demonstrator won’t return your calls (possible reasons: on an indefinitely extended vacation, simply closed-up shop, mysteriously abducted by aliens), please reach out to me at [email protected].  I would LOVE to be your demonstrator and earn your business.  🙂

  3. Once again Brian, great design. I’m really enjoying the grey and orange. You see it often these days. Thanks for the design!

  4. I love the color combo in this card. The DSP really pops on the gray background and I totally agree, it works for a masculine card too.

  5. I love your style. Your cards are always so inspirational.

  6. Love the bold graphic design! Very coooool……..

  7. Great idea to make the card for both not quite so frilly or delicate .
Congrats on your wins ! They recognize true talent !!!

  8. Love this card, Brian. Very clean, cool colours and super for a modern wedding. Love it!

  9. Love this card Brian. I would love to ask you what you as a man would love to receive for a Happy 70th Birthday card. I know you are not 70 but I am wanting to make my husband a card for his 70th birthday and always make one and get the comment ‘gee that is lovely’ not ‘that is fabulous or fantastic’ and he doesn’t show it off at all. I like your cards so much. I wondered if you could steer me in the right direction please? I don’t know any men demo’s in Australia. He is an Academic, retired high school, principal. He taught economics and still is now involved in student teacher accreditation when they are doing their final year in university he visits school during their practicums. Hope you can help me. His birthday is 2nd October. thank you for reading this post. I love your work. sincerely Kay.

    • Kay, The best advice I can give is to make it simple – clean, tailored lines. Bold patterns and solid colors are great basis for a masculine card. I don’t think a masculine card has to be just dark brown or dark blue, but those are a surefire way to stay away from “lovely”. 🙂 As shapes go, I really like the Window Frames Framelits as a starting point for a card. Good luck!

  10. Great card Brian! Love the simplicity but how elegant it looks at the same time! Love the colours! Super fun! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

  11. What a wonderful wedding card…I love those polka dots and the colors are amazing. Thank you so much for playing along with us at The Card Concept.

  12. Hey Brian! I am really loving the simplicity of this design. LOVE the pattern paper, and wait… is that sentiment really a stamp (or two)?? I love the fonts! I haven’t been involved with Stampin’ Up for many years, but I just may need to check them out again…
Thanks for playing at the Card Concept!

  13. You’ve nailed clean and graphic Brian (a style I can’t quite master – must have something to do with my over-layering! lol). This combination of colours is so fresh and pretty together. Thanks for joining us at FMS and The Card Concept!

  14. The rounded corners add some style to it – another thing I forget to do. Great card!

  15. Looks like I am late for this one, also, guess I was having trouble getting on your site.
Finally have and enjoy it greatly! Have to give you a chuckle-when first stamping I used the tape technic on a sentiment stamp and could not understand why I got that blurb of ink on card! Dummy, me, I forgot to take the tape off and did not realize it for an hour!
