The Newborn King for Pals Paper Arts

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for another challenge from The Pals Paper Arts.  Yippee!  This week, we are sharing a sketch from Nicole Watt – so many fun things you can do with this sketch.  I chose to go simple and understated.  Here’s my card:

The Newborn King, Petite Pairs, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, 217And here’s Nicole’s sketch: 08-28Tips, Tricks and Reminders

      • Filling the Void.  When a sketch calls for a very large panel (as is the case with this sketch – or it would be odd for me to even bring it up in this post), there several options to fill that large space.  You can fill the void with beautiful patterns (patterned Designer Series Paper or texture-embossed paper).  You chose to fill the void with a large, stamped image – this Nativity Scene was my first and only choice.
      • White Embossing Powder.  Because you read my blog every day and because you read every word I write (How do I know?  Yesterday.  Penguins.), you already know how I feel about White Stampin’ Emboss Powder – I absolutely love it!  I can’t think of any other way to honor the beauty of this stamp set.  I also love how it really pops against the deep, rich Blackberry Bliss.
      • Color Combination.  When I discover a combination of colors that makes my heart go “pitter patter,” I love to share it with you.  In this case, the rich depth of Blackberry plays really well against the mature pop of energy in Old Olive.  The white really stands out against both of these colors.  If you feel the same as I, please feel free to print this combination or save them for future reference:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  2. Oh Brian, how gorgeous, this colors are so amazing together. Love all the layers, what a beautiful Christmas card, you did a fabulous job stepping out of the traditional colors. Truly lovely.

  3. Brian, I like to kid you about being the multi layer “King”, but I truly believe the matting and layering of your cards is what makes them so beautiful. This is T-orgeous (as my 2 year old granddaughter told me yesterday).

  4. Yes, many of us do follow your blog every day. White Stampin’ Emboss Powder is “the bomb”. I love your card ideas because they are all beautiful, but also so inspirational and easy to re-create. Thanks so much for inspiring so many of your blog followers on a daily basis. We love you (and your cards of course too)!

  5. Hi Brian:
As you know, I avoid stamps that need to be colored in. Some people find coloring relaxing while others don’t quite feel that way. I just love it when you show the way to use a stamp I would otherwise avoid because that very reason. This is a fabulous stamp and when used with the white embossing powder, especially on that fantastic color combination it’s a real “wow” factor. I also agree with Maria – your layering is THE best. Beautiful card, fabulous color combination and multiple layers – HALLMARK EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

  8. I agree with Grace … I would have probably avoided this stamp even though I really liked it when I saw it … but, thanks to you, I can totally see making an elegant card with embossing this image!

  13. Yep, this is a wonderful color combo! I had a friend quite a few years ago (ahem!) who used this color combo in her den. It was gorgeous!!!!! Sounded awful til one saw it in person. Sounds just like your vision, Brian!

  19. Love your color combination, Brian! Such a nice card!

  20. Brian, I am a Canadian loyal reader of your daily blog and hobby stampin up demo. I had to finally stop and leave a comment as I thought this stamp was for “colouring in only” – thanks for showing a fantastic alternate option!

  21. Brian, when I first saw this stamp set, I immediately imagined it embossed in Gold on black, or Silver on Night of Navy. But I must say, you have outdone yourself! The pop of white against the Blackberry Bliss is outstanding…and your layering with Old Olive is perfect! Gorgeous card…thank you for always taking us outside the box. 🙂

  22. This was my favorite set in the Holiday Catalog from day one! Your card is beautiful! Thank you for the daily inspiration.

  23. GORGEOUS. Different way to use this stamp. I love it!
