Chimney Delivery for Mojo Monday

You’ve already seen the moose on a sled (if not, please check it out here), and you’ve already seen my pile of Santas (if not, please check it out here).  I don’t want to go overboard with the Visions of Santa stamp set, but it has really had my creative juices flowing.  I had another idea bubbling up inside me that I couldn’t pass up, and I’m excited to share it with you today.  My concept fits nicely with the Mojo Monday Sketch this week, so I made this:

Visions of Santa, Get Your Santa On, Boys will be Boys, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO362And here’s the Julee Tilman’s Mojo Monday sketch that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

    • One, Two, Three Stamp Sets.  The images on this Whisper White panel are pulled from three separate stamp sets – two are in the Holiday Catalog, and one is in the Annual Catalog.  Can you name all three?  If not, I’m going to tell you in a moment, anyway, so please don’t stress – but could you name them if you had to?  I combined the Santa image (so calmly floating down from the sky) with the parachute image by masking the parachute image before stamping it down – I’ve edited a video that I’ll share with you later in the week – so be on the lookout.  Click on any of these images to get a better look at them:
  • Color Inspiration.  Old Olive and Real Red are easy choices when planning a card around the holidays.  When Basic Black and takes an important role in the project, thought, the entire thing takes on a new life.  I tried it and was excited about the result.  If you want to give it a try, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Time for a Re-do.  The card I shared above is the second version of this card.  The top wasn’t balanced (too much white space), and I wasn’t happy with it.  I took my pictures but had to revisit it to add more weight to the top – I removed the pearls and added the thick Old Olive banner and a single Basic Black Candy Dot.  If I had time, I would have moved the banners and Santa up on the card, but everything was already glued down.  The quick fix added the weight I needed to make this card work the way I wanted.  Here’s my Version One:Visions of Santa, Get Your Santa On, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO362

  1. Confession – I don’t like these Santa’s however you have created fun whimsical creations using this set. I think version two is perfect. The addition of the Old Olive banner and the Black Candy Dot seem to really anchor it.

  2. Before I read your third tip, the banners really stood out to me. I actually scrolled back up to see them again. Then when I read your third tip and saw the original I at first thought that you removed the old olive banner for your final card… Too early in the morning. Then I read that tip again and recognized that the picture beneath was the original. Way to go. You were right. Version 2 is much better. This sketch honestly looks challenging. I may have to give it a try! You rocked the sketch.

  3. Love version #2 also. I think the pearls were to soft or bland with the colors. I think darker candy dot works better. Thanks for sharing.
    🙂

  4. Well, I don’t like this Santas either but like I said the other day, you have the amazing ability to create really great cards with just about any stamp set. This one is very cute, having Santa come down the Chimney on a parachute is really funny. You did it again Brian, your creative juices really overflowed on this one!!

  5. Now this is the BEST way to wake up and start the day…this card made me laugh out loud and I can just see the “wheels turning” in your head when you made this! This is soooooo you…..over the top creative and fun! Thanks for the big laugh this morning – a fabulous card!

  6. Creativity at its best! Love it!

  7. So, so, so clever!

  8. What a hoot!

  9. You give so many helpful tips and explain concepts clearly which along with your humor is why I read your blog everyday. But you knew that. I really like when you show us a before and after card and talk about what worked and what didn’t. True, sometimes it’s a matter of personal preference, but it’s so helpful to me because of the visual. It’s the old “what’s wrong with this picture?” and I’m usually not sure. Then you explain and it all makes sense. Love that! You’re like a little dose of art class every day.

  10. I never would have figured out the use of the parachute, but what a genius combination of stamp sets!!! I like the second version of the card, too. You were right about the balance. I like white space on cards, but the first one had a wee bit too much. GREAT card!

  11. Definitely agree, version 2 is so much better balanced. Love the extra banner and the single candy dot.

  12. So creatively inventive. Great job Brian

  13. Great card. You have such fun ideas!

  14. Too funny! =)

  15. Wow Brian! You really knw how to rock seemingly “unpopular” stamp sets! This is great!!

  16. Thanks, Brian, I LOVED this Santa stamp set!! Every time I look at it, I giggle. Your card certainly added more fun! Like everyone, second version brought it to the “WOW” factor, and your explanations are very informative for future cards to create. Thanks,

  17. I really love your creative juices flowing, as evident even after you did Version 1. I like Version 2, tremendously! I think a lot of us rethink our creations after taking a first look at the results, which goes to show that even as experienced as we are, the bottom line is…don’t glue down until you’re happy with the results! That, or remake another! Love your verve, and Thank You for sharing.

  18. You gotta love those hairy legs ! This is definitely not Old Saint Nick of long ago !
Funny and creative card ……love it !

  19. Smile, smile, smile – that’s what this makes me do.

  20. Love your combo of stamp sets. Love this sketch and what you did with it – just perfect!
