While there are certainly other ways to use the colors from this week’s Pals Paper Arts Challenge (they are Crushed Curry, Always Artichoke and Cajun Craze), they just scream “Fall!” to me. With this rusty, regal palette, I was not able to stay away from the Autumn landscape.
Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:
And here’s the banner for this week’s color challenge:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Can You Panel This? So, here you have it – a clean card with lots of layers of cardstock. The multiple layers of cardstock in the background bring your eye directly to the centerpiece of this card – the leaves and the sentiment panel. Each layer is framed with a thin border of Very Vanilla to further separate the colors, highlighting the beauty of each.
- Using Framelits. There’s a lot of color on the this card – the outside layers, the large panel of Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper and the accent leaves, so I wanted to make sure my sentiment would be showcased on a large panel of Very Vanilla. I didn’t want to settle for a simple panel cut with my Stampin’ Trimmer, so I searched through my Framelits. That’s when I landed on the large tag from Chalk Talk Framelits. Perfect! Here’s a snapshot of all the components of this simple card:

- Kiss Me! Let’s be honest – the star of this card is the triplet of leaves, right? I created these leaves with The Kiss Technique, which I shared via video yesterday. In case you missed it (or if you just want to see it again), you can see it here.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’ll head over the The Pals Paper Arts to check out the other project by the talented design team members.

Oh wow, very, VERY nice. ~Sandra
I like the angles on your banner. So many times we just leave regular straight corners or use the corner rounder, but these were different and unique. I learn so much from following your blog. Thanks!
Well, definitely the leaves are wonderful, love the texture you gave them with the kissing technique, love it Brian but your layering…..oh!! that needs to share the spot light!!! and that sentiment perfectly framed with the Framelits…..genius!! This card is anything by simple, my dear, it’s fabulous!!!
I like the VV borders separating the colors . I need to try that and I meant to the last time you said that ,but it got lost in all the other wonderment of my creative mind !!!Great Autumn colors ….yay Regals !
Gorgeous! And so is the card 😉
Do I count 8 or even 9 layers (if you count overlapped leaves?)!!!
Awesome card Brian. While they’re not screaming, these colors are definitely saying Fall very politely and with conviction to me. Your leaves are making me want to see if a couple of my stamp set will pucker up. ; )
Beautiful Brian! Looks like we had the same idea this time. Love the Chalk Talk tag idea.
Awesome card Brian. Love, love, love the colors. But then, I’m a fall baby anyway! How did you get the very vanilla sentiment tag smaller than the larger one? Did you trim it? Or am I missing something?
Shelley, Yes, I trimmed a tiny snidge off each end after cropping the same tag in Very Vanilla. Thanks for the positive feedback.
SNIDGE!!! That’s going to be my word of the week, lol! Love it!
I really love the textured look of your leaves using the Kiss Technique! Great card Brian!
Going to have to do some kissing this weekend..esp. on some leaves! Great card!
