Happy Sunday! As I get ready for the big week ahead, I’m happy to share a sweet and simple “hello” for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. This project is clean and easy but still has some fun elements to make things interesting. Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- The Paper and Feathers Connection. When I first this piece of Designer Series Paper from Confetti Celebration, I thought the design resembled a Native American pattern. As soon as I saw Four Feathers and the coordinating Feather Framelits, I knew I’d pair these two together. For over a week, several feathers have been sitting on a swatch of this paper, waiting for the right time to use them. The paper was just too busy to be the focal point, though. I knew this paper and these feathers would find a home as soon as I saw this sketch.
- The Switch-em-up. My original concept for this card was to include three different feathers in a cluster and keep this Designer Series Paper as the background. I was struggling. As I approached this card (with its modified use of the paper and scripted “hello” I thought I could use the feather to look like a pen plume – I’d cleverly have the feather extend off the right side of the word. Things just weren’t balanced. In the end, the feather resting along the bottom of the circle was just prettier and more calming to me – and it gave me the balance I needed.
- The Envelope Liner. I love the patterns in this paper, but it can be “a bit much” in large doses. Since I clearly wanted it to be an important part of this card, I lined the inside of the envelope with the same paper. It gives me just the right amount of Confetti Celebration paper – AND since the recipient will first see the patterned paper on the flap of the card, the “callback” on the face of the card reinforces the importance of this pattern to the design of the card.
