Halloween Hello at Pals Paper Arts

It’s time for another fun color challenge from the Pals Paper Arts.  Woo hoo!  This week, the color challenge is a haunting combination of Tangelo Twist, Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  I created a beautifully spooky project with non-Halloween stamps from the Annual Catalog and added a little bat from Freaky Friends for flavor.  Here’s my 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ card:

#Hello, Freaky Friends, Mixed Bunch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA223And here’s the banner for the PPA challenge that inspired my project:PPA223I was also inspired by Jaydee’s Halloween-themed challenge over that The Paper Players:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • That Little Bat.  I reached for Freaky Friends to add a little accent to my “Hello” sentiment.  My original thought was to cover the heart in “o” with the bat.  What was the problem?  Well, the bat completely covered the “o” which left “Hell”.  Although spooky, it was definitely not what I was going for!  I slid the bat up a little bit and noticed how perfectly he sits on the top of the “o” – it’s almost like his little body was designed to sit there.  “Eureka!”  I love him there.
  • Concentration.  Each of the three colors plays a very important part in the design of this card.  I wanted to showcase the Tangelo Twist, so I left my background Basic Black with little pops of Very Vanilla.  Any extra Tangelo Twist would have counteracted its importance in the center of the card, so I concentrated all the color in one place – front and center.
  • A Beautiful Pattern.  The beautiful, lacy pattern that halos the sentiment is created with the Mixed Bunch set.  I stamped the image (in the lower, right corner) several times and punched each one out with the Blossom punch.  I snipped straight through center of each, leaving 6 pieces.  I gathered those pieces around the backside of the sentiments and glued them down to create a “nest” that is beautiful (and a little bit creepy).

Stamp Sets:  #Hello, Freaky Friends, Mixed Bunch  Papers:  Basic Black, Very Vanilla  Inks:  Tangelo Twist, Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories:  Blossom punch, 2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I hope you’ll pop over to The Pals Paper Arts to check out the projects from our other Designer Team Members.

  2. Brian, the first thing I noticed on your card was that cute little bat that indeed looks like it was made to sit there on top of the ”O”, so glad you didn’t cover it, the word “hell” would have been to scary.
