Silent Night for Merry Monday

I really love the theme of this week’s Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge – Silent Night.  Why?  It gives me a chance to use The Newborn King stamp set again – and to pair it with a non-traditional Designer Series Paper (an idea I’ve been brewing for a long time).  Now, I get to share it with you.  Here’s my project:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Isolating Images – and Snipping.  The Newborn King is a beautiful Nativity set with lots of groovy, modern images.  I love how it pairs beautifully traditional sentiments with a not-so-traditional Nativity.  I wanted this card to be truer-to-form, so I isolated the manger scene and stamped it on Whisper White.  I stamped again on Crumb Cake and snipped the manger out.  If you would like to see my video on Isolating Images, you can check it out here.
  • Neutral Color Combination.  I love the magical pairing of Basic Gray with Crumb Cake.  I forget how much I love it and then fall in love all over again.  The neutral layers of cardstock add a calm base to this card.  The pops of Whisper White and Crushed Curry are even more alive against this backdrop.  If you like this color combination, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Starry Night.  Do you recognize the Designer Series Paper I used on this card?  It’s from Santa & Co Designer Series Paper.  The designs in this paper pack are filled with whimsical, fun images – moose in pajamas, dancing Santas, bold patterns – but this image of stars really stood out to me.santa & co

  30. Hi Brian, I’m all for non-traditional colours for Christmas. There is a surfeit of reds and greens in my opinion. I’ve enjoyed several of the designs from that particular DSP simply because it isn’t traditional. I also love the way you’ve isolated the little manger scene for your card. It takes the clutter away and leaves what’s important. TFS
