PPA225 featuring All is Calm Snowflake Embellishments

I love a challenge with a good card layout.  Sometimes a sketch makes the card just pop into view – other times, you have to play around with scraps until you come up with something that works with the sketch.  This week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch is one of those “play around with paper” inspirations for me – and I have no problem playing around with paper.  🙂  To see it all come into view, I had to cut and crop and round before I came up with this card:Good Greetings, Holiday Invitation, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA225

And here’s Nicole Watt’s sketch for this week’s PPA challenge:
PPA225 SketchTips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Stringing up the Snowflakes.  I wanted to add something unique on this front panel and thought, “snowflakes on twine might be nice.”  Three (of course).  I strung these All is Calm Snowflake embellishments on a long piece of twine and wrapped it around the panel, pulling one of the snowflakes onto the front at each pass.  I love the way they are stacked along the three levels of twine – just what I wanted.Good Greetings, Holiday Invitation, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA225
  • Where to Put the Sentiment?  This sketch leaves a lot of room for artistic impression.  Do you want to add an extra image over top of these panels?  Do you want to line the edges of the panels with something fun?  Where in the world do you want to put the sentiment – bottom right, across the panels, inside one of the panels?  Since the card is designed around these snowflakes, I decided to add the sentiment on a simple banner just above them.  That helps the focus to be just where I wanted it to be.  It also serves as a reminder from me to you that Good Greetings is only available through October 31 (when you place a $300 order or combine orders with friends to reach $300).  It’s a great set, and I don’t want you to miss out.  Click below to see these images in my Online Store.
  • Wintery Color Combination.  Why is the lagoon lost?  Because it’s covered in snow.  The color inspiration for this card is from All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper – simple.  While there are other colors in the designs of this paper, I really like the combination of Lost Lagoon, Soft Sky and Whisper White.  Pop in some silver, and I’m super-happy.  I added three Soft Sky Candy Dots before the sentiment to fill the space without drawing attention to the element there.  If you like this color combination, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. So frosty and pretty!!

Did you use some kind of adhesive to keep the snowflakes in place?

    Love it!

  8. Beautiful card Brian. I think Lost Lagoon is going to be the “It Color” for the holidays. I have fallen in love with those little snowflakes. Now I know how I’m going to use them on my holiday cards. Great job Brian

  9. lovely card, will have to order those snowflakes now!

  10. I like the textures you added to the card, esp. the twine, from which you dangled those snowflakes.
I think one thing I would’ve done differently is to use Lost Lagoon stamp color to darken the candy dots, so they’d “pop” against the Soft Sky banner.

  11. I love your card. How did you cut your paper for sheet 2 & 3, paper size? I like the look but I’m afraid I’ll never get it to look right.

  12. Nice card Brian! I also like these colors. They have a cool and wintery feel to them.
Also the rounded corner make it a soft card, I feel square corners would be to harsh for the blues. Thank you for all your instructions and hints!

  13. I’m seriously swooning over this card right now. You nailed it! Love those aqua mint colors and the three snowflakes on different layers of baker’s twine.
