Stampin’ Up!’s Gentle Peace in Sahara Sand

Last week, I shared a card I made with Stampin’ Up!’s Gentle Peace.  I used Blendabilities to color in the stain glass window.  If you missed it, you can see it here.  Today, I’m sharing the same stamp set but giving it a different spin.  This time, no color – just some metallic embossing powder on Sahara Sand.  Here’s my card:

Gentle Peace, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Keep it Simple.  This beautiful image speaks for itself, no?  Kudos to the Stampin’ Up!’s lead illustrator, Kathy Pitt, for creating a beauty with this set.  In photopolymer, it’s a new stamp, but the image is classic.  To let the image do its work, I embossed it and left it alone.
  • But Step it Up a Bit.  Sure, I could have stamped it and left it alone – it still would have been beautiful, but I added two things that helped to step it up a bit.  One:  Pewter Stampin’ Emboss Powder adds a beautiful shine to this image.  The pewter mimics the lead that would be used to solder the window pieces together (at least it’s how I think they’d look).  While Pewter is no longer available from Stampin’ Up!, Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder is a perfect selection, too.  Here’s a better look at how this embossing powder looks when it picks up the light:Gentle Peace, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • OK, Maybe One more Step.  I ran my VersMark ink pad over a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock (just bigger than the outline of the window) and covered it with Pewter Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I then cropped around it, miming the shape of the window – just a little bit bigger.  That piece is glued to the cardstock, and the window is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Here’s the bottom corner of the window:Gentle Peace, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. This is like one of those understated gowns on the red carpet to an awards show, simple yet elegant and makes a bold statement! The embossed frame makes a huge difference. Great card Brian.

  2. I agree with Kelly. This is a beautiful card. I love the simplicity of it, plus the tip about the extra step really defines the shape.

  8. I like it better this way . I have seen a lot of colorings and they are all pretty ,but this is by far my favorite . And again I will say that Baby Jesus looks adorable ! Framing and embossing made this a winner .

  14. Brian, you have brought such elegance to this card with your use of embossing powder! I am definitely going to try this card! Thanks for sharing!

  15. Brian–this is great. Simple and yet not plain-very inspiring. The window outline is the perfect accent-is the entire piece underneath covered with embossing powder, or just the edges? Wondering how it would be on dark cardstock, perhaps night of navy.

  16. This card is simply breathtaking and I think just using the silver would be fabulous no matter what color cardstock one used.

  17. Absolutely stunning card Brian. I love neutrals, they say so much, but quietly. The embossing adds that little something extra. Awesome job

  18. i never would’ve known you had mounted it if you hadn’t pointed it out! that’s what i call EXPERTISE in matting, man!

  23. Hi, Beautiful card. Did you stamp the image on a piece of cardstock and run the versamark around the image, emboss with silver and cut the image slightly larger for to create the mat? Thank you

    • Thanks for your comment, Debbie! Glad you like it. I ran my VersMark ink pad over a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock (just bigger than the outline of the window) and covered it with Pewter Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I then cropped around it, miming the shape of the window – just a little bit bigger (I used the cutout window as a guide). That piece is glued to the cardstock, and the window is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
