Bonnie Klass, host of this week’s theme for Merry Mondays Challenge, has chosen Red, Green and White.  Seems easy, right?  Not.  With so many rich reds and beautiful greens to choose from, I had a hard time narrowing down the field.  In the end, I landed on the gorgeous combination of Real Red, Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White – I love this pairing.  Here’s my card:

MM136 11-24Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Layering.  I love a clean card with lots of layers.  It’s a challenge – how many layers can I add before it starts to look busy?  🙂  I especially love when the layers are bordered with a singular color – in this case, white frames each of the panels, and the center piece is framed with a bold piece of Real Red cardstock.  If you missed my video about creating “wow” borders, click here
  • Start Somewhere.  While creating this card, I must have spent a total of two hours  hemming and hawing over what to make.  Red, Green and White sounds like a super-easy combination, but where to start?  Once I set-in on my colors (Real Red, Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White), I settled in on this beautiful paper from All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I built the layers card around that paper – you have to start somewhere.  That paper is my somewhere for this project.
  • Green and Red.  There are so many combinations of green and red – more greens in the current Stampin’ Up! family of colors than reds, but here are some of the options (pairing Real Red, Cherry Cobbler and Rose Red to most of our current greens):Color Inspiration, Cherry Cobbler for Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Color Inspiration, Real Red for Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Color Inspiration, Rose Red for Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  1. Great card and the chart is great for us visual learners. Thanks!

  2. Great card and color combinations Brian. You can’t go wrong with Cherry Cobbler; it’s my favorite red. But your paring of Real Red and Pear Pizazz were a great choice. I like how the soft shade of Pear Pizazz compliments the bright shade of Real Red.

  3. Great card Brian! One question though…did you hand snip the white mat backing your punched tree? Thanks!

    • Yes and no. 🙂 I glued the tree to a piece of Whisper White, lining up one side close to the edge. I then ran the other side through my trimmer to get sides cropped. I snipped the bottom of the tree by hand.

  4. Super card Brian, I really like the color combination you chose. I can’t think of one person on my list who wouldn’t love receiving this card. Think you could whip up about 25 of them? Just kidding. Beautiful job
