Painted Petals Sneak Peek for FMS166

As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I am able to pre-order items from the 2015 Occasions Catalog a month early (and can already earn Sale-a-Bration products at the same time), so you’d better believe I’ve stocked up on some fun, new supplies and stamp sets.  I’m really excited to share a sneak peek at some gorgeous new Designer Series Paper and a wonderful new stamp set from the Occasions Catalog (available for ordering on January 6).

Here’s my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge:

Painted Petals, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS166And here’s Karren’s sketch that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Painted Look with Stamps and Paper.  It’s Spring, y’all!  And Stampin’ Up!’s Painted Petals stamp set and Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper will soon hatch to help you create beautiful projects with gorgeous images and colors.  Who doesn’t love the look of beautifully water colored flowers?  Achieving that look is super-easy with this set and this paper.  AND…the sentiments in this set are AMAZINGLY wonderful!  Check it out!Painted Petals, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Minus One.  I love to create projects with inspiration from sketches.  Sometimes, though, an element of the sketch doesn’t “work” with the rest of the card.  I tried my darnedest to include a little piece of Blushing Bride twine in this design (and ultimately remade the center panel), but I ultimately decided to center my sentiment and remove the twine.  The focal panel needed to be more “clean” to stand out against the busy – but beautiful – background.
  • Fresh Color Combination.  The cardstock colors I used for this card were inspired by the colors in the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  Throughout the Fall and Holiday seasons, I’ve barely touched Wild Wasabi, so I’m happy to see it turn up here.  The colors in this paper include: Blackberry Bliss, Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Rose Red, Sahara Sand, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi on a Whisper White base.  Phew!  That’s a lot, but they sure do work well together – and it’s nice to play with some fresh, Spring colors.

Stamp Sets:  Painted Petals  Papers:  Blackberry Bliss, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White  Inks:  Blackberry Bliss, Wild Wasabi, Blushing Bride  Accessories:  Scallop Edge Border punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  12. I’m excited to see a paper with Rose Red again. I have an entire pack of it sitting here and the color just seemed to be a little “off” with any dsp I attempted to use it with. I really have fallen in love with Painted Blooms DSP and this is the first time I’ve laid eyes on it. It screams Spring and Easter. Can you tell I’ve already seen way too much snow? 18. Your card screams “Springtime” and it seems all of us could use some of that about now. It is a beautiful card. I love the DSP having so many colors in it to bring out whatever cardstock we have. Happy early birthday. With things a little crazy this time of year, I may forget on Tuesday. I believe in making them last as long as possible…a week or longer. Why not, right?

  19. Goodness!!! Happy almost Birthday Brian, gosh!! it slipped my mind. I don’t think my card will make it in time so, it will be a belated birthday, my dear.
I really like this DSP, it shouts Spring loud and clear, even if it’s a long way off.
Your card is a breath of fresh, Spring air, just about what we need right now up here, today is a gloomy, gray day and we just came back from watching my 16 y/o granddaughter brake her own record for the 50 yd. free style…..28.1 seconds!!!!! Forgive me for bragging. 😉
