Celebrate Your Big Day with Cake

Woo hoo!  I’m honored to be featured as Guest Stamper on Mary Fish’s Stampin Pretty blog today, and I’m happy to share some wonderful sneak peek items that will available in the 2015 Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-Bration brochure (both available starting January 6).

It’s a big day at Stamp with Brian, and I just might celebrate with cake.  Here’s my card:

Big Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Life’s an Adventure.  I’ve always been in love with the colors and patterns in Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers.  With Adventure Abounds, Stampin’ Up! is offering us a mixture of great photography on one side and beautiful patterns on the other.  While the patterns and pictures are primarily masculine, there’s a lot of room for soft and beautiful projects.  Check these out:Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAdventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • From Chalkboard to Graffiti.  I just love this Big Day stamp set – one of the Sale-a-Bration items you can earn when you spend $50 between January 6 and March 31.  Who doesn’t love free stuff?!  And who doesn’t love cake?!  The set has a chalkboard feel to it, but I switched it up a bit.  I used White Stampin’ Emboss Powder to apply this sentiment on this brick paper (from Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack).  Here’s a sneak peek at this wonderful Sale-a-Bration offering:Big Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Achieving Perfect Layering.  There are five layers of paper on this clean-and-simple card.  While the top layer of Adventure Bound is the focal point of this card, the Cajun Craze patterned paper below serves to support the brick pattern on this paper.  The thin, crisp white frames around each of the layers accent the White Stampin’ Emboss Powder perfectly.  If you missed my video about creating “wow” borders and frames on card, you can check it out here.Big Day, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Stamp Sets:  Big Day  Papers:  Cajun Craze, Whisper White, Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals

The addition of a lined envelope with the Envelope Liner dies completes the entire look – I added the same paper that was used for the outside border of this card.

  1. Hi Brian, The DSP looks so real I was wondering how the stamp made it over all the mortar. Duh! Maybe it’s too early for me. Very graffiti-ish. The whole pack of DSP is very inspiring. Can’t wait to see more of it.
    🙂

  4. Yes, the white makes this “Brick ” pop ! Great card for the guys ….,but as you have shown there are some”girl type ” prints in this stack . I think that sweater look one would make a cute “winter” card !!

  5. Great card Brian!
The brick paper is about 5 months too late

  6. Cathy from Illinois

LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!! January at my Stamp Class, we are doing Guy cards!! Thank you so much for the great card!!

  7. Love this card. I have 2 sons and my 4th grandson was just born in October, so I am always looking for guy cards and layouts. Will you share your layer measurements? I really like the little white border. Thanks!

    • Deb – Thanks for your comment. I play around with layers, trimming away at them until I get the right balance). The layers of patterned paper here are 4″ x 5-1/4″ and 3″ x 4-1/4″ with the white layers just 1/8″ wider and longer for each. That gives me a white border that’s 1/16″ all the way around. I hope that’s helpful.

  8. Just when I thought I didn’t want that paper stack…….you embossed on it and changed my mind! Love your layers today, too, Brian. Nice card!

  9. So simple, so MAN -nifigant!! great card Brian!!
I wasn’t going to order that paper, but I am now!

  10. I like what you did with the photo DSP. Gives me lots of ideas.

  11. Awesome card Brian, you can plan to get an order for that DSP on Jan. 6 from me, I love those plaids. Pairing this DSP with the Cajun Craze is perfect. Great job

  12. Gorgeous papers in the new DSP stack! Very masculine indeed. Is it harder to emboss on DSP? I ask because the DSP is thinner than regular card stock and I would hate to ruin a beautiful piece of paper? Great card Brian! With that paper stack I think we can look forward to many more terrific card designs!

  13. Wow I am loving that brick background with the chalk sentiment! I celebrated my big day with cake …….. And a singing phone call…… 🙂

  14. Love it! Love all your cards.

  15. Great masculine card Brian! I love your CAS style!!

  16. Off the WALL, so cool!

  17. Beautiful layers! The papers are fantastic, so much dimension! I can see I’m already in Sale-a-Bration trouble; loving that stamp set. 🙂

  18. Genius card!

  19. Love this. The white borders are to die for!

  20. This is a great card! What are the outer dimensions of the finished card?

    • Jill, Thanks! This is a standard 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card front – the entire base is 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″. I think that’s what you are asking.
