Happy New Year! – with a Sneak Peek

It’s time to crank out a couple of cards for New Year’s – and what better way to celebrate than with a stamp set from the Holiday Catalog (that’s on sale right now) and a sneak peek Specialty Designer Series Paper (that will be available in the upcoming Occasions Catalog)?  Woo Hoo!  Here’s my card:

Mingle All the Way, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • An Isolated New Year.  The sentiment on this card is an isolated image from one of the sentiments in Mingle All the Way, a stamp set from the Occasions Catalog that’s currently on sale.  If you missed my video about isolating images on a stamp to ink up only a part of the stamp, you can see it here.  If you don’t already have this versatile stamp, maybe you could buy it now while it’s on sale in the Clearance Rack (available while supplies last – the clear mount set is marked down from $17.95 to $12.95.
  • What Makes it Specialty?  This Specialty Designer Series Paper is from a birthday-themed specialty paper in the upcoming Occasions Catalog.  I love it – in fact I like it so much that I used it on my own birthday card.  Two of the sheets of this paper include gold foil images – this one includes golf flecks in the confetti.  In another, gold foil balloons are featured.  Here’s a shot of the paper I display in my birthday post:Balloon Bash, Stampin' Up!
  • A Slanted View.  I was ready to glue down this Night of Navy and Calypso Coral card, with its coordinated borders and straight lines when I got a wild hair to slant the band that grounds the circular sentiment.  I decided to go with it before I changed my mind and couldn’t be happier with the decision.  I kept the sentiment aligned horizontally on the card, rather than slanting it with the band.  A different look that I like – although tomorrow I’ll likely be back to horizontal and perpendicular lines.  🙂

  1. Very nice . . . clean and crisp and versatile.
    🙂

  2. I like the color combo and the slant really gives it pop. The DSP looks like sparklers going off.

  3. The slant and larger midnight muse frame caught my attention immediately. I love this card and layout. I am pinning it!

  4. Love the confetti! I just want to buy everything in the Occasions catalog! Such neat creations coming from it! We have some really creative people!

  5. Love the card and would love to case. Are you sure the Happy New Year is from Mingle All the Way? I don’t see it.

  6. Okay ! Now I want that dsp ! Mary said she loves it and now you say you do too! Guess it`s on the list . I like your card and was reading along following your creativity trail until you threw out perpendicular ! Really ???
I like what you did with the sentiment ! That`s a good holiday stamp set for sure !

  7. Thank you for this! I have been struggling with a clean, fun design for this DSP. I think Making Spirits Bright will be a great replacement set (which I’ve been wanting to use). And you used my two favorite colors! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  8. love the colors. Actually its the slant that drew me in…love that.

  9. Love the card today!

  10. Oh Brian, that sentiment on a very subtle slant looks fantastic, it really draws your eyes to the sentiment. The DSP fits just right for this festive card, it’s like confetti falling on these famous words. Happy New Year to you, my dear.

  11. This is a really cute card Brian. I was wondering is there a cut off date for mailing New Year’s cards? Oh well, I’m sure someone will offer an answer. I’m thinking within the first two weeks of January that way you’ll have supplies from the new catalog.

  12. Super great card! Wonderful lines. The DSP reminds me of the little confetti that comes flying out of the little champagne bottles that you pop at the stroke of 12:00.

  13. Very cool layout and your use of the confetti with those colors is super great! Love the card Brian, and I would not have thought to use that stamp set and just ink the Happy New Year! Splendid idea! 🙂 Happy New Year by the way!

  14. If I pinned all of your cards that I love they would have to buy another server!
