Hello Life for PPA234

Happy New Year, y’all!  If your night was anything like mine, then you were tucked in bed early, enjoying a restful night of sleep when the clock struck midnight.  By the time this blog post goes live, I’ve likely been up for several hours, working away in the Fungeon.  What a great way to spend the first day of the year!  🙂

Night of Navy, Wisteria Wonder and Silver – this color combination for this week’s PPA Color Challenge seems like the perfect combination for a formal, but fun, celebration of life.  The blue is so formal, the purple is so sweet, and the silver binds them together with a little festive sparkle.  My card celebrates life and the start of a new year.  Here’s my card:

Hello Life, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA234And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my creation:PPA234Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  The striped background of this card is made with a new Specialty Designer Series Paper from Sale-a-Bration.  I love this paper.  Irresistibly Yours is a sturdy white cardstock with a white embossed pattern on each page – stripes, scallops, dots, flowers, leaves and stars.  Because the paper is already embossed, you can color the paper (but leave the embossed areas snow white).  So much fun!  The white stripes you see on this card are the areas that are already embossed for us.  🙂Hello Life, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA234
  • Mask, Ink, Dauber, Wipe, Repeat.  To create the colors on the background stripes, I masked the group of stripes on the paper, inked up my Sponge Dauber and then painted the stripes.  I wiped the ink off the paper (it doesn’t dry on the embossed sections) with a paper towel and removed the masking.  I opted for a pattern of 3-2-3-2, using silver at each “2” layer and alternating Night of Navy and Wisteria Wonder at each “3”.  The silver was hard to photograph, but it’s there.  🙂
  • Cut it out!  After I had painted the stripes on this Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper, I dared to cut into the paper with my 2-1/2″ Circle punch.  I didn’t expect anything to go wrong, but it still felt like a risk.  The sentiment (from Hello Life photopolymer stamp set) is cropped with a 1-3/4″ Circle punch and layered on a 2″ circle of Wisteria Wonder.  I popped up the layer of Specialty Designer Series Paper and each layer of circles with Stampin’ Dimensionals, utilizing the negative space of the Night of Navy layer beneath.

  2. Happy New Year ! You have started off with a bang with this project . I haven`t ordered this dsp yet ,but I think that it goes on my next order even if I don`t plan on coloring it . It must be pretty in the fact that it is white on white embossing .
    Fun project …

  3. Happy New Year, Brian! Love the card with the new DSP … are you really already down in the Fungeon? And I thought I was an early bird!

  4. Good Morning Brian, Happy New Year to you too! I love the card and your coloring is great. I know the feeling of cutting into a piece of cherished card stock or DSP. The circles looks fantastic. Have a great day.

  10. Hi B, Happy New Year ,my prayer for you is a year blessed with good health, peace and joy. I enjoy you and your work so much!!

  11. Happy New Year Brian! We had the best trip ever and really enjoyed seeing our family and friends. The hardest part is going to be playing catch up. The best part is that I have a week of “Brian” waiting for me to sit and enjoy. See, there IS a good side to everything.

Such a beautiful card today. The color combo is spectacular and how you have the patience to color in all those lines is way beyond me. I absolutely love cards that are a surprise when you open the envelope and any card that has a cut out usually does have that effect. This one in particular because of the fabulous layering of your circle over all.

Enjoy your day and enjoy having heat in the Fungeon. I think we are all needing that furnace this week. LOL

  12. Beautiful card, Brian and Happy New Year!

  13. Happy New Year! What a great card to start 2015! I love your cleverly created DSP for th background and I would have been a little nervous punching that hole in it too? It’s a fabulous way to showcase the greeting though. Thanks for joining DT1 this week!

  14. Great stripes Brian! Happy new year!

  15. Great card! Love the stripes and your clever way of including the challenge colors into your own DSP creation. Need to check into the Irresistibly Yours paper. Thanks for the inspirations!

  16. I love the card and caught one little typo that would make a difference to stampers if they CASE like me. In the paragraph Cut Out you said a 2″ punch for punching through the striped card. Down below you stated a 2 1/2″ punch. Just to let you know so if someone follows your great instructions first. LIKE ME :), the layers would not work.
So simple and so so classy!

  17. Quick Question
How did you mask the stripes? DId you tape them in the 3-2 patterns so you could color 3 or 2 at a time?

    • You correctly answered the question – I masked the outside of three of the lines, inked them up and then removed the mask. I used Post-It Correction Tape.

  18. Love this card! ! Your coloring technique is great as well. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

  19. “…I didn’t expect anything to go wrong, but it still felt like a risk.”

    Love it!

  20. You were sleeping and I was reliving a childhood pleasure, playing with sparklers. Different as up by 5:00AM and I’ll only hit the snooze button 3 times today, lol. I love your card, I have a thing for diagonals. The way you colored the card stock to fit the challenge was ingenious. Great job Brian.

  21. Bonne Année 2015 Brian from France merci pour l’inspiration

  22. HAPPY NEWYEARS BRIAN,WISH YOU A HAPPY 2015 !!!
    And a happy life !!!!!
    Hugs ,and more hugs Frenchie

  23. Great card. Do you ever have any bloopers?

    • What a sweet comment, Roberta. At least, it feels like a compliment to me. Unfortunately, I have many, many project mistakes. The amount of paper that gets unintentionally wasted in the Fungeon is crazy. I scrap things part-way through and some after I’ve photographed them. 🙂

  24. Had to revisit this card to show my friend who wants to order this paper……just love how the stripes came out!

  25. This is a Brian card to the Max….you are always so inspiring and make us feel like we are right the with you in the fungeon….Happy New Year my friend!
