Happy Bloomin’ Birthday, Mom!

No day is more special than today for this is the most celebrated day of the year.  If you’ve been watching the news, reading the papers, or following the online gossip columns, then you already know why today is so special.  Still, I’m going to tell you.  Today, January 10, is Mary King’s birthday.  Woo hoo!  Happy Birthday, Mom!

Here’s a card I made for Mom (and for this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge):

Flower Patch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, MOJO379And here’s the MOJO Monday challenge banner that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • You non-conformist, you.  I love a good balloons-and-confetti birthday card as much as the next person, but every once in a while a birthday card can be beautiful with just flowers and a fun sentiment, right?  It’s fun to break the rules.  Mom loves blues (I guess that happens when you raise three boys).  When I first saw this pattern of blue flowers, I knew they’d adorn a card just for her.
  • Flip it.  If my non-conformist birthday design wasn’t enough excitement for the day, I’ve also altered this Mojo Monday sketch with a rebel scream.  After trying to force these shapes into in a portrait card front, I decided they looked wonderful when the card was flipped sideways.  Yippee!  I omitted the ribbon and bow, but the card is definitely inspired by this great sketch.
  • Honoring the patterns.  The last thing I want to do is make a busy, crowded card for my Mom’s birthday.  OK, maybe that’s not the LAST thing I’d want, but it’s on the list.  While I LOVE this piece of Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper, it’s a busy one that can’t be accessorized with something else busy.  I really wanted to stamp a flower on the sentiment panel, but I knew that the panel needed to remain clean.

Stamp Sets:  Flower Patch  Papers:  Wild Wasabi, Pacific Point, Whisper White, Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Pacific Point  Accessories:  Neutrals Candy Dots (Whisper White), Stampin’ Dimensionals

Please help me wish Mom a very happy birthday.  I won’t get to see her this week to celebrate with her, but I will see her soon.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Brian

  7. Happy Birthday Mary King. A lovely and fitting card for your Mom’s Birthday. I love that busy sheet of paper and agree with your clean sentiment philosophy except for the fact that I (being a butterfly lover) would have added just a little butterfly to the panel to finish it off. 27. Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday dear Mary – Happy Birthday to You. Gee, I sing good huh?
