Twitterpated for CAS(E) This Sketch

Before I share today’s project for CAS(E) This Sketch, I want to thank the CAS(E) This Sketch team for selecting my “You Make Me Happy” Valentine’s Day card as a favorite (you can see that card here).  I love that sketch, and I love that card.  I play along with these online challenges to find inspiration for some of the projects I share with you – it’s always a nice surprise to be recognized for the projects I create.

This week’s CASE(E) This Sketch design is another fun one.  Staying with the “love is in the air” theme, I created another Valentine’s Day card using one of my favorite color combinations.  Here’s my card:

Stippled Blossoms, You Plus Me, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS106And here’s Chrissy Larson’s sketch that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Stamping Off.  If you’ve been stamping a while, then you are intimately familiar with the term “stamping off.”  If you are new to stamping, I’m offering a quick explanation because this card heavily relies on this technique.  When you want a super-light image or varied shades of a color, ink of the stamp with your color of choice.  Then, stamp off the image on scrap paper to remove some of the ink before stamping the image on your project.  I stamped off the Stippled Blossom background image twice before stamping it on the Whisper White piece of cardstock.  I stamped off the detailed image once before stamping it down.
  • A Unique Card Size.  This card front is 5-1/2″ tall (traditional height for a greeting card), but the width is 3-1/2″, giving it a tall and thin shape.  While I certainly could have fit this card into a standard envelope (with room to spare), I decided to make an envelope with the Subtles Backgrounds Designer Series Paper Stack and my Envelope Punch Board.  Turns out this card size isn’t so “unique” afterall – the punch board identifies this size as the standard Gladstone size.  Go me!  Stippled Blossoms, You Plus Me, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS106
  • A Lovely Combination of Colors.  I don’t work with purples a lot, but when I do I love to pair pale purple (Wisteria Wonder) with rich red (Cherry Cobbler).  I’ve shared this color combination before – and I love it every time.  The crisp, rich red really pops against the soft, undefined purple backdrop of this card, don’t you think?  If you like this color combination, please feel free to save this off:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  2. Very pretty card, Brian. I imagine it could also be done with the pretty flower in the Bloom with Hope set, and even some other subtle colors. The color combination is not one I ever would have thought of, but it works nicely on your card.
