Irresistibly Yours: Happy Birthday to You

On Monday, I shared the first of three projects I have created with Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper – one of the products you can receive for FREE with every $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration.  If you missed that card, check it out here.  While Monday’s project was a rich and elegant spin on the white embossed paper, today’s is an energetic, fun twist featuring a different technique.  Here’s my card:

Amazing Birthday, Irresistibly Yours, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Could this paper be any cooler?  I love everything about how we get to customize it with our own colors and coloring techniques.  I further customized my creation by making a 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ card.  Don’t want to pay additional cents for mailing a square card?  Stick it in a rectangular envelope.  Crisis averted.  🙂

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Dauber, Dauber, Dauber.  Remember – this is white paper that’s heat-embossed with white (or maybe clear) powder.  The places where you see color are the places where the paper is not embossed.  So many options for creating unique looks with this paper!  For this card, I masked the lines with Post-it Tape (it’s OK if you get ink on the embossed parts because it’ll wipe right off) and then daubered the ink into the open space.  I wiped down each time with a paper towel before moving on to the next color.  Want to see another project I made with this same paper and technique?  Click here.
  • Give it Space.  Let it Shine.  When I was finished coloring this paper, I knew I wanted to let it shine on my project (after all, it’s the star of this show) – so I made every effort to NOT cover it up.  By setting my image and sentiment off to the right, I left a wide-open space for this specialty paper to do its thing.  Incidentally, the cake and sentiment are heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Both are from Amazing Birthday.
  • Color Combination.  This combination of colors was inspired by a Designer Series Paper from last year’s Occasions Catalog.  Perfect Prints perfectly combined Real Red, Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake – I added Daffodil Delight for some additional brightness.  With bright red, blue and yellow out to play, the Crumb Cake adds a grounding force that I really like.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this off:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  3. What a super card Brian! I love the color combination AND the stripes. This card yells “party time” to me. I have got to get me some of this paper to play with. The catty did not make the paper look appealing but since you have been showing it off it’s become a must have for me.

  4. Love this! It looks so much bigger than 4.5 x 4.5 in this photo. I’ve enjoyed how you’ve used the Irresistibly Yours DSP to make fun creations in the various projects you’ve done in the past weeks.
