You Rock for CAS(E) This Sketch

Puns are tons of fun.  As I sat down to play with this week’s sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch, I couldn’t resist a quirky and fun double entendre by pairing “you rock” from Crazy About You with…well…rocks.  Here’s my super-pun (pun intended) card:

Crazy About You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS107

And here’s the CASE(E) This Sketch challenge banner that inspired my creation:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Rule Breaker.  Every once in a while, I flip a sketch on its side or turn it completely upside down.  That’s usually an acceptable treatment, right?  Well, when I flipped this one on it’s side, I failed to pay attention to the requested placement of the sentiment.  Oopsies!  I guess I’m a big, bad rule breaker – still, my project was inspired by this sketch.  In the end, I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I think it pays a nice homage to this CTS challenge.
  • Washi Sheets.  If you flip quickly through the Occasions Catalog, you might miss one of the new products – Birthday Bash Designer Washi Sheets.  Washi SHEETS?  What are you going to do with those?  Well, the Basic Gray sheet of grids made for a perfect accent here, don’t you think?  I also taped a strip of the same washi sheet over a piece of whisper white card stock and cropped three hearts.  I placed the hearts randomly (yet strategically) over the other grid.  That way the hearts show but they don’t pull attention away from the most important part of this card – the “you rock” sentiment.
  • An All-Natural Color Combination.  I just love the combination of Crumb Cake and Basic Gray – such a beautiful combination for an earthy, grounded card.  I used these colors (with small pops of Crushed Curry) for a Christmas card last year – see it here.  If you like this combination of neutrals, too, feel free to save this: Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  14. Hi Brian:
I absolutely love this card and I can’t believe how perfectly you placed those hearts so the grid lines look as if they are actually behind the paper. WOW! The rock paper is my favorite from what I have seen of the Adventure Bound DSP. This is a fabulous card and oh so masculine. By the way, to me it looks as if you turned this card on it’s side you almost have the sentiment where the sample was! Not to worry, it’s a case of artistic interpretation! 🙂

  15. Great pun and laugh, Brian! Ok to turn cad (originally from NE) very silent r’s!
