A New Video: Cropping Outside the Lines

Yesterday I shared a cheery card for this week’s Paper Players challenge.  While the adorable bird and the bright colors are the star of this show, the birds’ beak peaks out over the perfectly cropped circle.  How intriguing!  🙂  Here’s the card I created:

A Happy Thing, Cheerful Critters, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP229

And here’s a quick video that shares how I cropped the circle without cutting the bird’s beak:

As I mentioned in the video, there are so many possibilities for this fun and simple technique.  Here’s another card I made a couple of years with a technique that achieves a similar look (the look of uncropped images) but that actually cuts through the images (you can see the cut lines if you look closely).  You can click on the image below to see the original post:

Modern Poppies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

I hope you like this video and are inspired to try this technique for yourself.  There are so many possibilities for creating a fun and wonderful project.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  9. Great video Brian! Like Maria, I’ve seen this done with framelits – but not punches. I will look at my stamps a whole new way! Thank you for the inspiration:-)

  11. OMG fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Since I saw the card yesterday, I have been trying to figure out how you did it! When I saw your video, I had my aha moment! You really are a wizard.

An aside, when I wake up in the morn and scroll through my email, I always read yours first. If there is a video, I watch it too! At first, my still snoozing husband would ask “who is that” and I would say “Brian!” This morning he said “Brian is in our bed again?” as he rolled over and went back to sleep.

I just died laughing. Some mornings it is my husband, me, the dog and Brian- all in the bed…

Hope Florida is warmer than Maryland is!

  13. Great tip, Brian! In fact, I had not even noticed that his little beak was over the edge when I saw the card yesterday. Love how you did that…very clever! And as always, your cards, tips and tricks are so helpful. Enjoy your time in Florida… 🙂

  14. What a great idea!!!
Had a senior moment when you were describing how to crop with framelits or dies
Will have to work on that one!
Thanks so much for sharing!! 🙂

  15. Thanks so much for the video on this technique. I will spend the rest of my day trying out different cards using this technique. I truly enjoy your videos and your website. You are an inspiration! 🙂

  16. Would you please make a video of the Poppy card. Not sure if you cut the flowers off before you die cut and then glued back on or before hand.
    TFS Great video!!!

    • Lynn, Thanks for your comment. I stamped and colored the flowers. Then, I cropped them and snipped around the outside pieces that were left. I glued those to the central image. I hope that helps.

  17. Brian,
I am thinking already about what stamps I can use this technique with already. Now, away from the computer and off to the craft table. I have inspiration to act upon.
    Thanks.

  18. Thanks so much, I can now go and look at my stamps in a whole different way…hg
