Be Brilliant with Stampin’ Up!’s You Brighten My Day

I know it’s not a great “business decision,” but I love to have [almost] all of the stamps and papers available to me – just in case I need one of them to create a look.  Today’s project is composed of three stamp sets – thank goodness I had all three because they were exactly what I needed to complete the look.  Here’s my card:

You Brighten My Day, Be the Star, Celebrate Today, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Light it Up.  That single light bulb from You Brighten My Day deserves its own showcase – it’s super-cute and can be used in so many ways.  The other stamps sets (Be the Star and Celebrate Today) take supporting roles here, but I’m so glad I had both in my collection.  You can earn You Brighten My Day during Sale-a-Bration – one of the free items you can choose with a $50 order.  Who doesn’t love that?!
  • Supporting Characters.  The sentiment from Be the Star and cord from Celebrate Today aren’t the center of this card, but they allow the bulb to shine (pun intended).  This sentiment (Be Brilliant) is not a sentiment in Be the Star, but I made it one by masking one and then adding another.  To learn more about masking sentiments, you can check out my video here.
  • Borders.  I love to create thin borders around layers on my cards.  In general, the border is darker or deeper than the layer.  The Daffodil Delight borders, though, add quite a bit of “pop.”  While the base of the card and the top panel of the card are Basic Gray, I used the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack to add a layer of textured gray.  Love that stack of paper!

Stamp Sets:  You Brighten My Day, Celebrate Today, Be the Star  Papers:  Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight, Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack  Inks:  Jet Black Stazon  Accessories:  Banners Framelits, Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  15. Hi Brian
I love this card! Quick question, I do no see the cord on the balloon set, but I see that they said 17 stamps in set and I think only 16 are shown. Is the straight cord in that set? Hey, I am going to have no problem putting in my first order with the 30% discount vs 20% discount being a new demonstrator in your team.
Talk soon – swamped with family stuff.

    • Nancy, Thanks for the kind compliment. As it’s presented in the catalog, the cord for the balloon looks as though it might be a page divider, but it’s not. 🙂 Tricked me, too, until I received it. I’m glad to have you join our team. I look forward to connecting with you further. Woo hoo!

  16. Ooooh Brian, you light up my life , that’s so cute just had to say it !!! Lol
    Love it !!!
    Hugs Frenchie,

  17. You really are amazing! I hate grey (wore it to school for too many years and I’m still not over it thirty years later) and I absolutely adore this card. It’s brilliant.

  18. Years ago, while growing up in Chicago, the electric company had a commercial. It had a little yellow bird who always sang “Electricity, costs less today you know…than it did many long years ago”… then this bird would turn on the light bulb and say “little bill !” meaning a small electric bill. This light bulb is almost an exact duplicate of the one in the commercial. While I also hear Debbie Boone’s “you light up my life”, for some reason this little bird song dances in my head. Needless to say, your card is brilliant…classy and “electrifying”… 🙂 I just love the clean look and the colors.
