Lime Yours for FMS172

We’ve all seen the gorgeous, yellow lemon from A Happy Thing – one of this year’s wonderful Sale-a-Bration offerings.  What if we’ve been wrong all along?  What if this lemon has really been a lime all this time?  How embarrassing that would be!  🙂  Here’s a cute Valentine’s Day card I made for Linda Callahan’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge:

A Happy Thing, Back to Basics Alphabet, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS172Lime Yours!  Do you get it?  Do you love it?  It might be a bit of a stretch, I know, but it’s kinda cute when it hits your tongue right.  I just couldn’t resist the childish pun for Valentine’s Day.  Here’s Linda’s fun sketch that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Simple Layers.  Linda’s sketch is featured on the central panel of my card.  I used the lemon…errr…lime image as the large shape and the sentiment as the smaller one.  With different-sized borders around the central panel, I added an interesting frame for the focal point.  While I’d normally add a thin border around the central Whisper White piece, I decided to leave it alone here.  If you’d like to hear my tips for creating interesting borders, check out my video here.
  • Stamp, Stamp, Stamp…  For a simple card, there’s a lot of stamping here.  I stamped the central image on Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow (and snipped the appropriate images.  I stamped the same image on the Whisper White card stock and the bottom of it again on the band of Pear Pizzazz Subtles Background Designer Series Paper Stack.  That’s four times!  I stamped the sentiment with Back to Basics Alphabet Stamps by stamping each letter one-at-a-time.  I’ve never stamped so much in my life (please don’t believe that last statement because it’s a TOTAL lie).  🙂A Happy Thing, Back to Basics Alphabet, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS172
  • Plan, Plan, Glue.  This card looks pretty simple – and it is.  At the same time, there are several layers that need to be carefully considered before the glue comes out to play.  Once everything was stamped and snipped, I glued down the strip of Pear Pizzazz Subtles Background Designer Series Paper Stack.  I then added the band of Whisper White Bakers Twine (I wanted the twine to pass under the leaves).  I THEN added the leaves and lime.  Gluing down the layers was last.  I carefully planned it all out and moved slowly.  It’s no good to glue now, regret later.

Stamp Sets:  A Happy Thing, Back to Basics Alphabet  Papers:  Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Subtles Background Designer Series Paper (Pear Pizzazz)  Inks:  Pear Pizzazz, Jet Black Stazon  Accessories:  Whisper White Bakers Twine, Stampin’ Dimensionals

  8. Love it!! Tell me what do you use to keep the envelope linner in ? I really like that look, it’s like the final touch.

    • Thanks for the comment you left on my blog today. You asked about how I keep the envelope liner in my envelope. It’s really very easy. I push the cropped liner all the way into the envelope, positioning it exactly where I want it. I then fold the flap down and fold the liner with it. I push the envelope flap back and then give the liner a good crease. I dab a little glue on the liner and then close the flap. It’s only glued to the flap of the envelope. I think I’ll do a video. 🙂

  9. I see what you did there. Clever boy.
