Boom Boom for The Paper Players

Since this has been a jam-packed week, each day has been claimed by a special challenge or blog hop.  Although I created this card on Sunday and have been anxious to share it, I’m sliding into home on the last day we can submit projects for this week’s color challenge for The Paper Players.  Just in time!  Woo hoo!

Before I share today’s card, though, I want to thank (the super-talented and super-kind) Shannon Jaramillo for selecting my Paper Players card from two weeks ago as A Cut Above.  What an honor to be recognized!  You can see my Happy Thing card here:

Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Groovy Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP231And here’s the banner for (the also super-talented and super-kind) Nance Leedy’s challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Super-Simple.  Sometimes the simplest cards can be the most effective.  I really like the simplicity of this project – one panel of Designer Series Paper, a heart and some banners.  Still, there’s a lot to look at here, don’t you think?  I love the little, white hearts in the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper – they don’t really stand out here, but they add a lot to the over effect.
  • Let it Shine.  The color challenge includes three colors – Calypso Coral, Real Red and Basic Black.  I chose to balance the effectiveness of the black and coral, but only allowed red to have a small role.  Still, the impact from that unexpected pop of red is important to the rest of the card.  In a way, minimizing the Real Red gives it a more important part on this card.
  • Wrapped Banner.  Rather than have these banners connect to the edge of this card and cover the heart, I decided to wrap the banner around the side of the heart.  It’s a little added detail that I call it “wrapped banner technique.”  I’ve filed a little video that I’ll share tomorrow.  Yippee!

Stamp Sets:  Groovy Love  Papers:  Basic Black, Calypso Coral, Real Red, Whisper White, Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack  Inks:  Jet Black Stazon  Accessories:  Hearts Collection Framelits, Hexagon Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to The Paper Players to see the cards by the design team members.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  7. WOW Brian –

You know I love CAS cards and this one is particularly beautiful. The eye catcher is the way you cut the banners to match the curve of the heart. I can’t wait to see that video. If I had to describe this card in a review I would call it Stunningly Unique. Love it!

  8. Love your “Wrapped Banner Technique”…. and the simplicity of the card is awesome. Thanks for sharing with us.

  14. Like a lot of the comments above, mine also joins theirs in recognizing the subtle but clever way you presented that “wrap”. You’re certainly a “cut above”.
