@birthdayboy for FabFri58

I’m excited to share this week’s FabFriday sketch with you.  It’s one of those straight-forward and super-simple sketches that can go just about anywhere.  I’m often times stumped by simple challenges, but I knew exactly what I wanted to do the moment I saw this one.  I allowed myself a few key modifications to my original design, and I’m happy with the changes.  Here’s my 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ card:

#hello, SoSocial, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri58And here’s the FabFri58 banner for this week’s sketch challenge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • My Go-To.  I would have to say that my go-to stamp set for the past year has been #hello, a stamp set from the Annual Catalog that I tossed into one of my initial orders.  I didn’t think much of it but have grown to love it.  Love it!  It’s a perfect match for the 2″ Circle punch, and I’ve used the images in this set for both formal and fun projects – it’s super versatile.  You can see the other projects here and here and here and here.  You can click on the below image to see it in my online store.
  • A Frame of @birthdayboy.  My original idea had “@birthdayboy” popping out of the right side of the @.  It was going to be a little, extra banner.  I had a hard time, though, balancing the card (using my patented squint technique), so I scrapped that idea and decided to repeat the sentiment on the borders around the outside of the central panel.  It required a Stamp-a-ma-jig and a whole bunch of patience, but I’m happy with the payoff.  Click here to see my video about using the Stamp-a-ma-jig.
  • Borders, Borders, Borders.  I really believe that consistent and repetitive borders add so much appeal to a card.  I created my square borders based on the sizes available to me in the circle shapes.  The thick Night of Navy border in the center is repeated in the square around the Designer Series Paper and the base of the card, while the thin Bermuda Bay border in the center is repeated in the square around the Designer Series Paper.

Stamp Sets:  #hello, @SoSocial  Papers:  Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, Birthday Bash Specialty Designer Series Paper Inks:  Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy  Accessories:  2″ Circle punch, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, Hexagon punch (for banner tips), Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday challenge site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s sketch.

Thanks for stopping by today!
