A Berry Sweet Basket of Cards

Whenever I have the opportunity to be the guest stamper on Mary Fish’s Stampin’ Pretty blog, I always set out to create a super-wonderful project.  I like to put my best foot forward when I’m in the spotlight.  I had already planned to share this project today – even before my calendar dinged to remind me that I would be Mary’s guest stamper.  It’s a good thing, because I’m excited to share this project.

My stamp clubs this month have been making a delightful berry basket (with the Berry Basket Bigz L Die) and have filled the basket with a collection of coordinating 3″ x 3″ cards.  How cute is this basket that was introduced in the 2015 Occasions Catalog?

The Calypso Coral butterfly from Butterflies Thinlits die really pops on the front of this Coastal Cabana berry basket.  I cropped the butterfly with a piece of wax paper (helps the card stock to pop out of the thinlit die) and added the wax paper cutout behind the cardstock butterfly for a little added texture.  I lined the basket with Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper (also cut with the Berry Basket Bigz L die).  The basket was so easy to construct and so fun to decorate.

Inside the basket, I added three 3″ x 3″ cards with coordinating envelopes.  Here’s the basket with the cards:

Adorable, right?  Who wouldn’t love to receive this as a gift?  Who wouldn’t want to keep this adorable basket on a shelf?  It’s both functional and beautiful.  Here are the three cards that are included in the basket:

Each card is created with Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper, one of this year’s amazing Sale-a-Bration options (FREE with a $50 purchase).  This paper is white with pre-embossed patterns – perfect for inking them up.  Each card combines three colors (Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana and Crushed Curry) and uses a different inking technique with the Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Here are the three cards and the techniques used for each:

A Stampin’ Sponge and Classic Ink.  I created a template with a 2-1/2″ circle punch and some scrap paper beforBest Day Ever, Berry Basket Bigz L Die, Stampin' Up!, Brian Kinge sponging this star paper with Crushed Curry ink.  A couple of circular swipes around the circle template (in a curcular motion) with the Stampin’ Sponge inks up this circle perfectly.  A simple wipe with a paper towel leaves the stars white and shiny.  I stamped this sentiment from Best Day Ever on Calypso Coral card stock and punched it with a 1-3/4″ Circle punch.  I embellished the card with an Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Sticker (a coordinating star) and Coastal Cabana ribbon from the Best Day Ever Accessory Pack.

Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers.  Stampin’ Blendabilities MSimply Wonderful, Berry Basket Bigz L Die, Stampin' Up!, Brian Kingarkers can also be your best friend with this amazing Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I colored these little scallops with Calypso Coral Stampin’ Blendabilties Markers – I swiped the entire panel with the lightest maker and then randomly colored some in with the darker shades.  Wipe the entire area with a paper towel, and you’ve created a perfect base for this card.  The sentiment from Simply Wonderful is stamped on Coastal Cabana and cropped with the Note Tag punch.  The card front is wrapped with Crushed Curry ribbon from the Best Day Ever Accessory Pack.

A Sponge Dauber and Classic Ink.  A sponge dauber can give you lots of control as Simply Wonderful, Berry Basket Bigz L Die, Stampin' Up!, Brian Kingyou add layers of ink to the Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Not only does a dauber allow you to quickly cover a large space, but it allows you to create depth or add texture by layering ink in areas of the card.  I used a sponge dauber and Coastal Cabana ink to cover the front of this card front.  Whether these are clouds or flowers, Coastal Cabana brightens this card front beautifully.  I stamped this sentiment from Simply Wonderful on Crushed Curry and cropped it with the Extra Large Oval punch.  I wrapped this card front with Calypso Coral ribbon from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack.

I hope you like this project.  My club members have certainly enjoyed it!

I’ve really enjoyed working with this Irresistibly Yours Specialty paper the past couple of months.  If you’d like to see some more of my projects that incorporate it, you can see them here, here, here, here or here.

  3. Great project! Not usually into making boxes, but I think I will have to have this one. I am making cards for my kids as an Easter present to them, what a perfect way to “gift wrap” them! Looks like I will be placing an order when I get back home!!

  7. What a great looking project and it looks like your club members are having a terrific time. I make card stacks for my friends as Christmas presents and usually decorate a cigar box to put them in but I really like this idea of the basket. Just a fabulous creation (as always) Brian. Thank you.

  8. I love this project Brian. As much as I dislike it, I can see adding that “grass” and little treats for the younger members of the family (and a couple of not so younger members). The butterfly is the perfect addition.

  9. Brian, I am loving your post today here and on Mary’s blog!
