Three Things I Like: Christine Oehlman

Every once in a while I receive a card that makes my heart go pitter-patter.  It might take me a short while to share that card, but the moment I see it, I generally know that I’m about to share it.  Christine Oelhman, a member of my InKing Royalty group from Canal Winchester, Ohio (her direct upline is Lynn Kolcun), gave me such a card at Leadership, and I’m happy to share it today.  Rather than just share it, though, I’m going to tell you why I love it so much – and try (as difficult as it may be) to narrow down my list to just three reasons.  Here’s Christine’s card:

Flower Shop, World of Dreams, Letterpress Winter, Stampin' Up!, by Christine Oehlman

Three Things I like:

  • White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  You already know how much I adore White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, right?  Christine has used it in two ways in this project – and I love both.  These flowers from Flower Shop are embossed on vellum and colored so that the white powder forms the spine of the flower – it’s what gives these flowers form so they can pop.  In the background (beneath the flowers), she embossed the branches from World of Dreams and then inked over them with Melon Mambo.  These embossed images offer beautiful background texture.
  • Flexibility with Single Tones.  The left side of this card is inked with Melon Mambo ink using a Sponge Dauber (I asked to make sure).  There’s a lot of pink going on here, don’t you think?  The “one color plus white” combination is always wonderful.  This design, though, can be recreated with ANY color of paper and ink to generate a different look each time.  Can you imagine how breathtaking this would also be in Night of Navy?  Crumb Cake?  So Saffron?  That said, I love it in Melon Mambo.
  • Balance.  There’s such serenity in the balance of three things.  I love that Christine embraced the all-important rule of three to create perfect balance on this card with the three flowers.  Although her Melon Mambo scoop on the left side isn’t perfectly balanced (by design, I’m sure), she found JUST the right spot in the white, un-inked side of the card to place the “thank you.”  Someone’s been squinting and likely owes me a nickel…

Stamp Sets:  Flower Shop, World of Dreams, Letterpress Winter  Papers:  Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Vellum Cardstock  Inks:  Melon Mambo  Accessories:  White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Sponge Dauber, Pansy punch, Basic Jewel Pearls, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you like Christine’s card as much as I do.  Please leave a comment to let her know how gorgeous this is – I know she’ll appreciate your kind words as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Brian

  19. I appreciate all your kind words. I’m truly touched.

I actually did it in different colors as Brian mentioned. Night of Navy was lovely and Tangelo Twist came out bright for the Thank You card I gave Mary Fish (I read somewhere that orange was her favorite color). All three colors were awesome.

These were also the first time I used my Blendabilities. I used the Melon Mambo set on the flowers (on top) and there was no running or fading. Added a nice “natural” touch to each petal.

Thanks again, everyone! You’ve all made my day, week, month! Take care and happy stampin’!

  20. A bit late but I must say, your card is lovely, the contrast of the beautiful vine against the Melon Mambo sponged panel looks fabulous. Love the white embossed flowers on velum, this always creates beautiful results.
Thank you for sharing your card Brian, and thank you Christine for creating it.
