Oh Happy Day! for PPA241

This week’s PPA sketch is super-fun!  An oval inside a rectangle inside a rectangle.  Kinda’ sounds like a turducken, huh?  🙂  I knew I wanted to make a bright, Spring card for htis challenge, and I immediately knew what sentiment and image I would incorporate.  I just didn’t know, at the time, which combination of papers and colors I’d use to complement my design.  Here’s what I came up with:

Build a Bouquet, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA241And here’s Nicole Watt’s sketch that inspired my creation:

PPA241Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Images.  Do you recognize this amazing sentiment and fun butterfly?  It’s from Build a Bouquet, the photopolymer stamp set that accompanies the Build a Bouquet Simply Created Kit.  There are some really great sentiments and images in this set – even if you don’t get the Simply Created Kit, you need this stamp set.  Just sayin’.  I made a video with one of the sentiments from this set – you can see it here.
  • Balancing the Melon.  I knew right away that I wanted a bright, colorful butterfly in the top, right corner of this oval.  Since that was the only touch of pink (at the time), I knew I needed to balance the pink a bit on the card (I squinted and gave myself a nickel).  I added the array of pearls (colored with Melon Mambo Blendabilities) to the bottom, left of this layer to partially offset the butterfly – but I intentionally didn’t want to pull attention away from it.  The card might still be a little “butterfly heavy” on that side, but I’m OK with it because that’s the “pop” on this card.  Know what I mean?
  • Color Combination.  A great combination of colors is vital to a beautiful card.  I started with a piece of Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper in the background of this card but changed partway to this Background Designer Series Paper Stack.  The colors from the Painted Blooms defined the colors I’d use here.  If you like this combination, feel free to save this:Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  4. Great card. I love the pearls. I have been trying to think of a cute card using this set. I think that using this set for a challenge would be a good idea. ( But you already nailed it!)

  5. Brian so well balanced! Who doesn’t need a “Happy Day”

  6. Brian, I believe you’ve just given me the idea I needed for my beginner stamp camp on Saturday. I wanted to feature the Irresistibly Yours designer paper so my guests have something to play with, but I didn’t want to stop there. I will cut everything else and let them assemble this card after they’ve colored the paper. Thank you!

  7. Agreed, Build a Bouquet is a great stamp set. I find mind is underused. I’ll have to remedy that. Thanks for the nudge!

  8. Love this one Brian. Your layering always seems to make things POP! Wonderful spring color combo – that Blackberry Bliss has become my favorite of all the cardstock available!
