Too Much Happy for FabFri59

It’s 100% true – you can never have too much happy.  I’ve loved this sentiment from Stampin’ Up!’s Yippee-Skippee stamp set from the moment I first saw it.  This might sound corny (and I’m OK with that), but I love this craft, and I love to share it with you.  Here’s my Design Team card for this week’s Fab Friday design challenge:

Flower Patch, Yippee-Skippee, Gorgeous Grunge, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri59And here’s the challenge banner that inspired my creation:

FabFri59At first, I wasn’t sure how I’d fit the Hello Honey in with these pinks – I wasn’t convinced it could be done.  I suppose I was wrong, though, because I’m really happy with the finished project.

I was also inspired by Laurie Schmidt’s challenge over at The Paper Players this week:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Straightened Out.  You already know this, but I LOVE Designer Series Paper.  I also LOVE to alter it a bit.  If the pattern is diagonal, I want  to make it straight (and vice versa).  What flexibility we have when we are able to cut into our paper to create new and fun patterns!  Is it the rebel in me?  I think it might be.  I might end up with more scraps from this paper, but I got the effect I wanted.  Thanks, Stampin’ Up!.
  • Curled Up.  I used my bone folder to gently roll the edges of each layer (not too much!) to give the flower a little life. This marks the first time I’ve ever used the flowers from this Flower Patch stamp set – a set I’ve owned since the set was released last year.  What has taken me so long!?!  I love that I can layer a beautiful flower with ease and can include whatever colors I want.  Yippee!  The fresh and fun colors from this week’s challenge were a great inspiration as I layered my flower.
  • Simple Splatter.  I hadn’t planned on adding a Gorgeous Grunge splatter (in my designer’s mind, the flower and sentiment would surely cover this panel nicely).  I don’t use it a lot, but this faint splatter of Blushing Bride adds just the touch I wanted to fill the empty space here.  It’s easy to see why Gorgeous Grunge is such a favorite!

Stamp Sets:  Flower Patch, Yippee-Skippee, Gorgeous Grunge  Papers:  Lullaby Designer Series Paper, Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, Whisper White  Inks:  Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, Hello Honey  Accessories:  Flower Fair Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Fab Friday site and The Paper Players site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenges.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  4. The first Brian King card I ever came across on the internet had this sentiment on it, back in Aug. 2013 (pink flowered check on the bottom…Flower Shop flowers above the pink…one of my all-time favorite cards.) How’s that for Flashback Friday! 🙂

  5. The sentiment is true, you can never have to much of a good thing, specially happiness. Love your card Brian, the detail of the Gorgeous Grunge looks beautiful behind this sweet bloom. The stripped yellow DSP makes the main panel pop.
    Thank you for sharing.

  6. That Blushing Bride is the big surprise in this color combo ! But it works big time !
I love your card ! G. Grunge and all ! You and Susan had to go and use that Flower Patch set ….now I want it and I do not “Need” it ,but never mind I want it !

  7. Hi Brian:

I absolutely love this card. I am always amazed at your layering, especially when you transform a DSP! Somehow you manage to turn busy into relaxed and soothing. You know I’m a CAS stamper and in my minds eye I could NOT see how these colors could come together. I should have known better – your creativity and artistic eye can find a way to create something beautiful out of next to impossible elements. You are one talented and creative paper artist for sure my friend!

  8. I’m going to be bossy today and say that I think you’ve used just the right amount of splatter on the face of your card. And in just the right color. I’ve seen cards made with the Gorgeous Grunge stamps using ink that was so dark you couldn’t see the sentiment. That’s kind of the purpose of the card, right? You did a perfect job with this card, and the Flower Patch stamps with their matching dies are a great set.

  9. A great card for spring, Brian! The Fab Friday challenge colors are perfect for spring. The sentiment is one of my all time favorites, too. Thanks for playing along at The Paper Players this week!

  10. Absolutely stunning!

  14. Love this card Brian – you’re right, there is something so ‘feel good’ about this sentiment. I wasn’t sure about the colour combo, but your card totally makes it work and it has a really fresh, spring feel. Thanks for joining us for our spring challenge over at The Paper Players this week!

  15. I LOVE how you have combined these colors, Brian!! And straightening out a diagonal pattern seems to be a trademark for you, I love to see it!! I’ve been a bit iffy on this set, you have inspired me to pull it out and get it inky…you ALWAYS inspire me!! Such a wonderfully cheerful Spring-y card!! Thank you so much for including The Paper Players in your crafting fun this week!

  16. Brian, another winner! 🙂 As always, you continue to amaze me with your interpretation of design elements. It’s not corny at all; you sharing this beautiful craft with us helps us to be inspired! And you do that so well. Bravo my friend! Just plain… BRAVO!
