For the New Two for PPA243

Soft colors can be so sweet and gentle, but they often need a little weight to balance out the softness.  For this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge (Pink Pirouette, Pistachio Pudding and Soft Sky), I used Basic Black to ground the sweet colors – but they are all still very sweet all the same.  Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

For the New Two, Bordering Blooms, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP243And here’s the Pals Paper Arts challenge that inspired my creation:PPA243

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Stampin’ Write Markers and StazOn.  The floral borders are stamped in Jet Black StazOn and colored with Stampin’ Write Markers.  While we transition from Blendabilities (they have been permanently discontinued) back to our beloved Stampin’ Write Markers, remember that the markers don’t work with Memento ink.  I did, though, use my Tuxedo Black Memento Ink for the sentiment – easier to clean and just as vivid.
  • Cut in Half.  The border around this sentiment is from Bordering Blooms.  The original image has two strands of this floral image, but I only wanted one.  With my paper snips, I cut the image in half.  This gave me just want I wanted.  I can always re-mount the other half on a block or just stamp with one again.  Photopolymers are so easy to see (for future line up) that I didn’t even think twice of cutting the image in half.
  • Oopsies.  After I perfectly centered my sentiment and borders on the piece of Whisper White cardstock I had selected – and after I had colored in all the components with my soft colors, I made the ridiculous decision to crop the edges of my stamped piece.  As fate would have it, I snipped too close to one of the leaves – and snipped it right off.  Argh!  I just snipped off the single leaf from the remaining for sides, stamped it again on scrap paper, snipped that leave with scissors and then glued it down to overlap the border.  A mistake that created the signature for this card, don’t you think?

  3. Great card Brian, love how the snipped error became such a beautiful part of the card. Nice idea to cut the stamp in half also, easier than masking it. Have a great day.

  7. Your ‘mistake’ MADE the card. Such a clever correction. I always say, “mistakes are just opportunities for embellishment!” Lovely, lovely card.

  8. I noticed the “out of the box” leaves and said to myself, “Ah, I’ll bet he is going to write, ‘And did you see that I used that technique I showed you recently?'” and I was wrong! How funny that you did an oopsie and I thought it was perfectly intentional! Now that’s what I call a clever seasoned stamper! Kudos to you, Brian~

  9. Absolutely the signature to the card. I’m so glad that you made that “error”! Awesome card – I like how you cut the overly sweet colours.

  10. I love this card Brian. I think I’m going to have to cut my border stamp as well. It fits much better on card size paper that way. Great tip.
