KUDOS! for PPA245

This week’s PPA sketch is super-challenging – five objects in a line on the bottom of a card.  What’s so challenging about that?  Narrowing down what images you want to use.  🙂 I bounced around from flowers to hearts to stars and back to flowers.  In the end, I decided to spell a word with Back to Basics Alphabet and my Banner punch.  So happy with the end result.  Here’s my card, perfectly simple for the graduate in your life:

Back to Basics Alphabet, Class of 2015, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA245

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Lining up the letters.  I stamped each of these letters on Chalkboard Paper with Versamark ink and then heat embossed them with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  To save myself a bunch of stamping and inking and cleaning, I layered these letters on an clear Block I – a large, long block.  That meant I could space them out and still get them all lined up along the edge of the paper – one ink-up, one clean-up.  Yippee!  Pay attention, too, to the way the punch is lined up to avoid cutting into the paper to punch from another angle – I’m not saying I learned that the hard way…
  • Chalkboard Paper.  While the base of my card is Basic Black, I used Chalkboard paper for the base of the letters.  Why?  The Chalkboard paper is sturdy enough that the tiny punched elements won’t bend in transport.  It wouldn’t be so “yippee!” if the little banners all had bent ends, would it?  Although the recipient of the card probably won’t recognize it’s Chalkboard Paper, there’s a fun connection between a school graduation and chalkboards – maybe that’s your secret.
  • Coloring on Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper.  You already know how much I love this Specialty Designer Series Paper that is available during Sale-a-Bration, right?  Even without Blendabilities (they were discontinued earlier this month), there are so many ways to ink up this awesome paper – sponges, spritzers, sponge daubers, brayers.  I used a sponge dauber to apply Coastal Cabana ink to this starry background.  After several layers, the Coastal Cabana takes on an (almost) Bermuda Bay look.  I, too, love that I can create texture by adding more ink in some areas.

Stamp Sets:  Back to Basics Alphabet  Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Coastal Cabana, Tuxedo Black Memento  Accessories:  Banner punch, Sponge Daubers, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the PPA Challenge site see the cards by the other design team members and to play along with this week’s sketch.
