Moon Lake: One Stamp, Two Cards

I had two very different cards to mail out this week:  a sympathy card for a dear friend who recently lost her mom, and a thank you card to my Great Aunt who hosted our family reunion this past weekend.  I wanted both to be special but didn’t have a lot of time to come up with new projects for each, so I created two cards with the same stamp, ink and paper that fit the bill for both.

Here’s the sympathy card I sent to my friend:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Watercolored Backdrop.  My original design was to mask a rectangle on the center of the page and sponge in some color for a beautiful sunset.  After a couple of tries without achieving the look I wanted, I reached for this gorgeous Soft Sky page from Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  It created a soft background without all the work.  Instead, I let the central panel (which I created longer than originally intended) be the clean, white focus of the card.
  • Stamped Twice.  Achieving this look requires patience.  I stamped the image on the blue background paper and then used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to line it up exactly where I wanted it on the white strip.  The image seems to lay over the white strip and melt into the blue.
  • A Beautiful Sentiment.  I am still in love with the beautiful sentiment from Petite Pairs.  It’s a great combination of print and script that perfectly conveys the feeling I want it to convey.  I stamped it just north of the image on the white strip to balance everything out perfectly.

Here’s the card I made for my Great Aunt – it’s mounted on a notecard.  Same image from the same stamp set with the same background paper:

Brian, both cards are so beautiful in their simplicity! I love both of them! And I cannot believe that I missed this stamp set … I didn’t “miss” it, but I did miss the tree and rowboat image! The Canadian Goose distracted me and I moved on from the set. I’d better “revisit” it. The addition of the black mat in your aunt’s thank you card was just enough to set it off. “Perfect” sentiment for the sympathy card … that is a very favorite of mine, too. Great cards! No doubt!

  2. Both cards are lovely Brian, on the first one, the image truly looks like there is no line where the two images meet,…..hurray for the Stamp-a-majig!!
I agree, this image and the sentiment look and sound beautiful together, the recipients of this cards will surely appreciate them.
    Thank you for sharing.

  3. Gotta love the Stamp-a-ma-jig!

  4. I love both of your cards. The sentiment and layout is perfect for conveying one’s feelings. That stamp set is a keeper which must be added to my collection. Thanks so much for sharing your tips.

  5. Amazing job lining up the images, Brian. Love the white panel.

  6. Love the cards! Moon Lake has become one of my favorites since it came out recently. My customers also love it….it is so easy to use for any occasion for anyone!

  7. Love love the simplicity of the cards!

  8. I find sympathy cards for men challenging…the soft, blue card base, the stamp in my opinion lend themselves to a masculine card. Even the non-fussiness is appropriate. Thank you for the new technique idea.

  9. I love both of the cards – so serene.

  10. Oh my Brian!

I absolutely love these cards. I’m never sure what to use other than flowers for any sympathy card but the empty boat by the tree is so very symbolic of peacefulness. You can’t convey serenity any better than that in my opinion. Also, we seem to forget that guys also send thank you notes and your second card certainly fills that need. To say how much I admire these cards is not enough.

Also wanted to let you know that your blog came through perfectly today. Justin’s did also except the one that came through was from April 1st! Hope you have some wonderful plans for tomorrow. Hugs.

  11. Love love your split image effect (reminds me of the Triple Layer Image cards) I have this set and really like it . I think it is a Keeper/Classic ….I just haven`t used it yet .
Thank you for a great idea on using this stamp . I need some “guy” type cards that don`t come off harsh !

  12. Both are beautiful! Can I ask you what the measurement of the sympathy card is? Thank you

    • Pamela, I mailed off the card so I don’t have it to measure. I know it’s a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card base. The next layer is likely 4″x5-1/4″ and then 1/8″ smaller than that. The white panel is 1-3/4″ or 2″ wide. I hope that helps.

  13. Both cards are beautiful Brian.

  14. Great cards Brian. I love a versatile stamp set.
