New Video: Stamping Off to Create Beautiful Backgrounds

Whether an oldie-but-goodie stamping technique opens a new world to novice stampers or simply reminds veteran stampers about something they already know, I think it’s important to share the basics every once in a while.  When you sit down to make a handful of quick cards, you don’t need to be covered up with complicated layouts or designs.  Sometimes the simplest, most basic concepts can be the most helpful.

Today’s video does just that.  Nothing fancy, nothing crazy – just a video about one of the most basic techniques in stamping – stamping off.  I used the Stamping Off technique in a project I shared last week (see it here) and thought it would be fun to make a video to further discuss this concept with you.

Here’s my video:

While I expected to just toss the “scrap paper” I used to demonstrate this technique in the video (how would I ever use a piece of paper that’s covered with Melon Mambo flowers?), I liked it so much that I actually turned it into a card when I was done.    Again, there’s nothing super-fancy about this video, but I hope you found it helpful.

Here are my most recent cards that use this Stamping Off Technique:

Here’s the card I was sharing in the video (click on the photo to see the original post):

  2. Hi Brian:

Sometimes we get so involved with all the new techniques that we need to be reminded of the older ones. I have to admit that even though the stamping off technique was one of the first I ever used, it’s been a long time since I revisited it. Your tips are very helpful and I thank you for reminding me that beautiful backgrounds can be made with a single stamp. Have a wonderful day and, as always, I love your videos.

  3. Thanks for all the great tips and videos Brian.

  4. Great tip Brian! What are the measurements of the two cards above?

    • Pamela – The purple card is 3-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card front. I made a coordinating envelope with my Envelope Punch Board. The pink and blue card is a standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card front. Hope that helps!

  5. Its so nice to watch your videos, and so nice to see you so relaxed while recording them!
    Happy Tuesday, Brian!
