Cracking Up with FabFri62

This past week, I wanted to make a super-cute card for a friend of mine who makes me laugh every time we talk – and the adorable bird from From the Herd will keep anyone from being in a fowl mood.  Get it, fowl?  I will probably be giggling from now until you are done reading this post.  This week’s FabFriday sketch gave me the inspiration I needed to combine colors and images into a card that makes me smile – and hopefully sends a smile to Lydia.  It also gave me a chance to use the “you crack me up” from For Peep’s Sake – a principally Easter set that doesn’t have to get stored away for next year.

Here’s my card for Lydia and this week’s challenge:

FabFri62Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • That bird!  Ummm…did you see that bird?!?  There are so many projects online that capture one of the animals in From the Herd and feature them in any number of scenarios.  The llama and goat get all kinds of screen time, but I was most attracted to this scattered and adorable chicken (or chicken-looking bird).  I simply stamped him twice on So Saffron and snipped him out in two pieces – the body once and the tail feathers from the second image.  I also stamped him once on whisper white to snip out his little eyeballs (that sounds terrible!) – and stamped just his feet in the Gorgeous Grunge dirt to give me a base to glue him down.  How cute is this little guy? From the Herd, For Peep's Sake, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri62
  • Color Combination.  This combination of colors (first introduced to me in Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper) is one of my all-time favorite combinations – Baked Brown Sugar, So Saffron, Coastal Cabana and Tangerine Tango.  LOVE IT!  With Maritime Designer Series Paper and Retro Fresh Designer Washi Tape, I was able to tie in each of these colors.  If you love this combination, too, please feel free to save this: Color Inspiration, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Cheater, Cheater.  This layout called for a strip of Washi Tape along the top, left side of the card front.  While mine does, in fact, include Washi Tape, I got there a little differently than might be expected.  After I stuck a piece of Retro Fresh Designer Washi Tape on a piece of Whisper White card stock, I cropped it out with one of the thinlits from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies.   Perfect!  I layered that on a couple of pieces of card stock – and DONE!  Oh!  I pulled apart a strand of Baked Brown Thick Baker’s Twine and tied it in a cute bow on this gold button. From the Herd, For Peep's Sake, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri62
