Stampin’ Up! Grand Vacation Hawaii Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2015 Grand Vacation Achievers Blog Hop!  Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from all over the world who have earned Stampin’ Up!’s Grand Vacation will be headed to Hawaii next month to enjoy a wonderful vacation with friends and family.  I was thrilled when Louise Sharp, a talented Australian demonstrator and great friend, asked me to participate in a blog hop to celebrate this wonderful occasion.  What a fun idea!

You may have started here or hopped here from the last stop on the hop, Jacque Williams at Stamp Happy.  Either way, I hope you’ll hop along to the next blog after you read my post to see the amazing Hawaii-inspired projects the other vacation achievers are sharing with you.  If you get off track, there’s a full list at the bottom of this post.  What fun!  Let’s not waste another moment!  Wait.  OK…go!

You Are My Sunshine

Hawaii is known for its culture and landscapes and people and cuisine and music and hospitality – but I think the gorgeous, sunny beaches may be what defines it most.  You just can’t help but feel sunny and happy in Hawaii, right?  I didn’t have to reach far to find the inspiration for today’s card.  It’s a super-sunny, bright card that captures the joyous sun I look forward to on my upcoming trip.  Here’s my card:

So You, Ray of Sunshine, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Images.  The two images on this card are stamped in black ink.  The sunbeams are stamped with So You photopolymer stamp, so I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink (it cleans right off  the photopolymer).  The sentiment is from a red rubber stamp called Ray of Sunshine.  I stamped it with Jet Black StazOn because I wanted the sentiment to be be as crisp and dark as possible.  I love the combination of these two images.
  • Misty Backgrounds.  The Lost Lagoon background is from Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper – I just love it.  While the Daffodil Delight card base is, in fact, card stock, the Daffodil Delight piece on the front of the card and inside the rays are a water colored design from Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  These papers add beautiful texture to the card.  A card’s gotta’ have some element of texture, right?
  • Mixing Colors.  In many designs (including the patterns in Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper), Lost Lagoon is brilliantly paired with Hello Honey.  For my sunshiny card, I paired it with Daffodil Delight, and I love the outcome.  Incidentally – for each of the sunbeams, I stamped the image on the Lost Lagoon paper and then again on the Daffodil Delight paper.  A couple of super-easy snips – and you’ve created a bold, fun sunshine.  If you missed my paper-piecing video, check it out here.

Stamp Sets:  So You, Ray of Sunshine  Papers:  Daffodil Delight, Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper, Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper  Inks:  Tuxedo Black Memento, Jet Black StazOn  Accessories:  Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you enjoyed my sunny card.  Please hop along to see what Louise Sharp has planned for you.  Enjoy the rest of the hop!

Thanks for stopping by today!
