One Design = Two Cards for FMS194

As I stood at my craft desk to plan out this week’s Freshly Made Sketches project, I quickly decided on a sentiment and color combination I wanted to use.  BUT…did I want my project to be a wedding card or a sympathy card?  Two very different reasons to send a card, but I suppose there’s a fine line between the images you’d select for either.  As I played around with different images, trying to determine which image to use, I finally gave in and decided to just share BOTH projects.  Both cards are made with Linda Callahan’s sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches Challenge, but here’s my favorite:

Butterfly Basics, Remarkable You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS194

And here’s Linda Callahan’s sketch that inspired my projects:

Here’s my second card with the same layout but with different flower images:

Butterfly Basics, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS194Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sketched designs.  The flowers in both stamp sets are designed with sketched images.  While I really like the bold, modern images in Remarkable You, the more rustic set of flowers from Butterfly Basics is beautiful, too.  Both seem to work really well with this gorgeous sentiment from Butterfly Basics – you already know how much I love sentiments that combine print with script.  I love this one.

  • Thankful for Thick Whisper White.  I didn’t use Thick Whisper White as the base for this card (hello, obvious!), but Thick Whisper played an important role.  When tying twine tightly around a panel, a border of fragile Whisper White is easy to bend or tear.  Thanks to Thick Whisper White, we don’t have to worry about that anymore.  The twine wrapped tightly around the base without denting the white card stock.  Love it!
  • Color Combination.  It seems I’ve been playing around with pink and brown quite a bit lately – I just love the combination.  If you also like this combination, feel free to save this for inspiration in your card making:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Blushing Bride

  14. Great cards Brian. Am I blind, where is the Crumb Cake used?

    • Ha! Great catch, Shari! I originally had a piece of Crumb Cake layer in the build of the sentiments but edited it out before gluing everything down. Somewhere in my mind, though, that Crumb Cake was still there. 🙂
