The Celebration of Your Fabulousness for PPA260

The Pals Paper Arts is inspiring you this week with a simple sketch – so simple that the possibilities are endless.  For quite some time I’ve wanted to showcase a favorite sentiment Happy Happenings – this sketch gave me the perfect opportunity.  Here’s my super-simple card:

Happy Happenings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA260

And here’s the banner for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge that inspired my card:

PPA260Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Tilted Sentiment.  The words on this bold, bright balloon line up with the orientation of the cardfront, not the orientation of the balloon.  I wanted to create the look of movement with the balloon (it’s not really moving because it’s just a piece of cardstock in the shape of a balloon – if it were moving, I would have had a really hard time taking a picture), so I turned the tie of the balloon a bit and let the string fly to the left.  The words are lined up with the card base so you don’t get a crick in your neck trying to read them.  The things I do for my friends…

  • Grounded Banners.  While the sketch clearly has the banners coming out from the circle in the middle of the card, I decided to ground my bold, bright banners on the right margin of the card front.  As an accent to the big, fun balloon, the banners just looked a bit odd shooting out of the side of the balloon – my eyes went to the banners.  By grounding them on the card, the balloon really pops more and steals the attention back from the banners.
  • Bright, Cheery Colors.  The colors on this card were lifted right from the Schoolhouse Designer Series Paper pieces I used as the base for the front panel of the card.  The paper is filled to the brim with bright and soft colors – I chose the bright ones as accents to the cheery balloon.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! Love the floating balloon idea! Such a fun idea even if it wasn’t for the challenge. Love the papers you chose too. Great job as always!

  9. I’m with you on grounding the banners, Brian. Seems a better balance than the sketch, if I may say so. Your card is gorgeous! Just a little tip: You may try kind of zig zagging that string somewhat, like the string is floating the many directions a balloon would go. Just sayin’! LOL!
    Big hugs, my friend!
