Lost without You for PPA261

For this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch, I used my “artistic liberty” license a bit.  I love this sketch – whether you choose to follow it exactly or give it your own twist, the image of three differently sized circles is quite compelling.  What fun!  While I didn’t work with circles, you’ll see that the sizes of the images are comparable – the sketch is definitely there.  🙂  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Perfect Pairing.  I just love the “I’d be lost without you” sentiment from Cottage Greetings – and it works so perfectly with these seaward images from The Open Sea.  While the font of the sentiment doesn’t exactly match like I’d want it to, the saying is perfect enough.  Click on either of these images to see the sets in my online store:

  • Stamping Off.  To create the soft, layered images of the ship log and globe, I simply inked up the stamps and stamped them once on a piece of scrap paper before stamping them on this piece of 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ Very Vanilla card stock.  I stamped the compass in a full inking of Delightful Dijon – because it’s the smallest image and because it’s the image that best ties to the sentiment, I decided to give it the full richness it deserves.  I’m sweet like that.
  • Color Combination.  While I was super-challenged by this sketch, I am really happy with the delightful pairing of musty colors I came up with.  Tip Top Taupe just felt right for the ship log, and Lost Lagoon worked for the world.  The small, golden compass in Delightful Dijon was the perfect balance to these other colors.  If you like this combination, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 8. The Open Sea has been one of my favorite sets since it first came out. I originally purchased it because I thought it would make great masculine cards, which it does, but It’s also much more versatile that it looks at first glance.

I think this card is fabulous and the mixing of the shapes is perfect and the perfection is brought on by the color combo plus your stamping off technique. It’s an amazing card just like it’s maker.
