Three Things I Like: Shawn de Oliveira

When I come across someone else’s card that I absolutely love, I know I must share their work with you.  You deserve to see it.  When I received a swap card from Shawn de Oliveira, my roommate at this year’s Stampin’ Up! Convention, I immediately began planning my “Three Things  I Like” about this card.  What a beauty!  I’m going to share Shawn’s card, following by three things I like about it – that’s right, I’m going to work hard to narrow down my list of things to just three.

Here’s Shawn’s gorgeous swap card:

Three Things I Like About Shawn’s Card

  • Watercoloring.  I don’t watercolor a lot because it seems like a daunting task.  I forget that watercoloring can have a HUGE impact – even when done in small amounts.  Shawn stamped these flowers from Birthday Blossoms and Petite Petals in Calypso Coral on watercolor paper.  He then used an Aqua Painter to paint the petals with varying depths of Calypso Coral.  What a great effect it adds!  Just look at how much texture is given to these flowers with just a little bit of painting.Birthday Blossoms, Petite Petals, Stampin' Up!, by Shawn de Oliveira
  • A Mix of Bold and Bashful.  While there are only three Calypso Coral flowers on the front of this super-clean card, there are flowers all over the card, inside the card and on the Crumb Cake envelope.  Stamped with Sahara Sand, these bashful and faded flowers add so much dimension and texture to the card front without distracting you from the three coral flowers and bold sentiment.Birthday Blossoms, Petite Petals, Stampin' Up!, by Shawn de Oliveira
  • Color Combination.  Although there’s a bit of Daffodil Delight in the middle of each beautifully painted flower, the central colors in Shawn’s card are Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake and Whisper White.  The balance of neutral and white is perfect here – pops of coral with a lot of soothing beige.  If you like this combination, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up!
