Home for Christmas – Sneak Peek

Each time I have sat down to make a card this past week, I tell myself, “Brian, use your favorite items from the Annual Catalog.  It’s true – you have some great new items from the Holiday Catalog, but the Annual Catalog is still so new.”  I have so many products from the Annual Catalog that have remained untouched – they are still new, but the Holiday Catalog items are NEWER and SO MUCH FUN!

Here’s a card I made with some new products from the Holiday Catalog:

Project Life Seasonal Snapshot 2015, Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Home for Christmas.  Let’s talk about this gorgeous paper that is sure to be on the top of your list from the upcoming Holiday Catalog.  The catalog explains the Home for Christmas suite of products as images that “evoke the nostalgic feelings of Christmas past.”  I want to take it one step further – this incredible Designer Series Paper reminds me of the wrapping paper you would have found at Grandma’s house 40 years ago.  It’s not vintage.  It’s not modern.  It’s what my childhood memories look like.  The sentiment, created with a combination of words from Project Life Seasonal Snapshot 2015 stamp set is decidedly NOT nostalgic, but it works well with the rest of the card.  Here’s a peak at the page of Home for Christmas Designer Series Paper from which I snipped this adorable Santa:

  • Building Simple Layers.  With so many whimsical and fun papers in this pack of printed papers, I wanted to carefully pick patterns that wouldn’t fight with this adorable Santa.  I didn’t want him to get washed into a sea of red, so I strategically placed him against this Mossy Meadow with its mistletoe pattern.  What fun!  The bold candy cane pattern made for a nice, contrasting base piece on this layout.
  • Color Combination.  I just love the colors used throughout this Designer Series Paper – there are unexpected colors like Mint Macaron and Pacific Point that play a key role in its beauty.  For this card, I focused on three colors that I quite love:  Mossy Meadow, Real Red and Very Vanilla.  Yes, the circle is Very Vanilla (even though the picture looks like it’s the same color as Santa’s white beard).  If you like this combination, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! • Maria, The other pages in this paper are adorable! The other side of this page is a really cool (and versatile) stripe with green, red and blue.

  9. What a wonderful card! My mom may still have that very wrapping paper in her attic!! Lol! Great job snipping (did you adhere it to a piece of WW before snipping?)! And the layers are lovely as well:-). Well done!

  10. This paper is straight out of my era (the 60’s)…absolutely love it!!! Your snipping is impeccable, as always. : )

Perfect! I love everything about this! I don’t know about the wrapping paper being of my grandma’s but it sure looks like something my mom would have had when I was a kiddo. We have a photo of us opening presents on Christmas morning and the sun is barely coming up in the background of the photo.

This DP begs to be snipped up if you ask me. Love the other papers too. A great flat card for mailing. I love the colors you chose and it all works perfectly. You go straight to the top of Santa’s Good Boy list!

  12. Your are the King of Snipping. Great card. Don’t you love the Designer Paper. So clever that you used three different ones in one card!

  13. When I first saw this card Brian, I thought “Oh no! Brian is making cards using the computer!”. Then I read the description and a HUGE sigh of relief broke out from me. Love, love, love this card and had I taken a second to think about it, I would have realized those little scissors of yours were working overtime! Super fun Christmas card Brian and I think the candy cane striped paper is going to be a “must have”.

  14. Love your card, Brian! I wouldn’t have thought of snipping out the Santa from this gorgeous paper.

  20. OK, Mr. Brian, another wonderful card from you, BUT …… where in the new Holiday or Reg., catalog is the Drk. Green DSP with white holly berries I. I can not find that, and really like that one too. HELP please. Very nice and simple holiday card though!!

    • Nana Vonne, The two panels and Santa all come from the Home for Christmas paper. This Mossy Meadow page is in there – promise! In the catalog it appears to be a paler green, but it’s the one with the music notes on back.

  21. Great card! Love the mix of patterns.

  22. What an absolutely adorable card. I can’t wait to get my hands on that DSP.

  23. Beautiful Christmas card! Love the adorable vintage Santa!:-)

  24. LOVE that Santa and really NEED that font!!!!!!

  25. Another masterpiece! Brian, one of the greatest things about you, is how you think everything through, to make a stunning creation. Your “building simple layers” paragraph is proof of that. I love how you take it all in, then just lay it down and it’s perfect! Everything you do is perfect, even the little mistakes that only you know may be there. With your permission, may I CASE this for my Christmas stamp camp? You will definitely get credit – everyone that comes knows who Brian King is! Love this card! Thanks for the inspiration!

  26. Brian, a beautiful card that evokes the soft sweet emotion of love at Christmas. I too would like CASE this card, again with full credit to you Brian King! Thank you for sharing your gift.
